Page Four Social Doings Around Town Lorraine Youngkin Wynn Littlefield Wed Wednesday' Lorraine Youngkin was united in marriage to Cpl. Wynn Little field of the US army at a quiet ceremony at the home of Rev. A. H. Cropp last Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lerton Hall were at tendants. The bride wore a green suit with brown accessories and the matron of honor wore a blue suit with black accessories. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Jarley and Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Jarley were -out of town gubsts at the cerf mony. Mrs. Littlefield is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards of Wolf Point and attended the Wolf Point schools. Cpl. Littlefield is a graduate of the Wolf Point high school and has been in the army | for ?ome time past. The couple ! will make their home in Wolf, Point for the present while he is on furlough, after which he will leave for a port of embarkation for two years overseas with the army of occupation. A wedding luncheon was serv ed by the bride's mother for the ■ wedding party immediately after i the ceremony. A beautiful three tier wedding cake was cut by the , bride and served to the guests. World Souvenir Tea at Presbyterian Church Today A- World Souvenir Tea is being held at the Presbyterian church today, (Thursday), Jan. 31 under: the sponsorship of the ladies aid. The hours will be from 2 to 5 in | the afternoon and again from 7 • to 9 p. m. for the benefit * who cannot get away in the <iay-i time.. The display promises a wide variety of souvenirs from all parts of the world. Many returning ser vice men who brought back me mentos of their “visits” to foreign lands "have donated the use of the articles for the tea. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy this unique* entertainment and any who have not been con tacted and have souvenirs they would like shown, may bring them to the church today. Farewell Party at The Court House Retiring - Assessor The Roosevelt county court hoose personnel participated in a farewell partv last week honoring Clarence Hanson, retiring ^county assessor. Guv Miller made the presenta tion spee-h and gave Mr. Hanson a gift from his former associates in the county work. Mr Hanson responded with his thanks. The ladies of the group served a delicious lunch. • VISITORS AT THE MAWHINNEY HOME Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ryder. Ro main and Marge Ryder and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Odden, all of Froid were visitors at the Cliff Mawhinney home in Wolf Point over the past week end. R. Townsend of Wolf Point celebrated his tenth birthday last Friday afternoon after school. Fourteen young friends attend ed the party. HOUSEWARMING FOR THE FRANK HARADAS A group of friends gathered at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harada on the north side, Saturday evening, for a house warming party. The crowd played cards and vis ited and a delicious lunch was served at midnight. Those invited were Mayme and Ada Jacobi, Rose Deck, Jo Tilton, Jessie Boissens, Evelyn Morley. Maxine Montgom ery, Norma Lovejoy and Helen Hansen, Misao Kume, Mary and "Dido’’ Harada, Mary. June and Grant Kurokawa SURPRISE PARTY ON MRS. HOWE’S BIRTHDAY Mrs. Charles Howe was pleas antly surprised last Friday, after; noon when a group of friends and neighbors ame in to help her cele brate her Hfrthday. The afternoon .was spent in vis iting and doing fancy work after which a delicious lunch was served by Miss Isabel, assisted by Mrs. Feick, Mrs. Matejovsky and Mrs. FitzSimnmns. The beautiful birthday cake was baked by Mrs. T. Birkland. The guests presented Mrs. Howe with a purse of silver and a wish for many more happy birthdays. DINNER FOR MRS. SWENSIED Mrs. Gordon Montgomery was hostess at a dinner party honor ing Mrs. John Swensied of Sidney on Thursday, Jan. 24. SNAPPY SNIPPERS* MAKE NEEDLE CASES The Snappy Snippers 4-H club held its first meeting of 194 G at the home of LaDonna Moe on Sat urday, Jan. 19. This was a work meeting and needle cases were made by the members. The rest of the afternoon was spent in singing club songs and the hostess Mrs. Carl Moe served a very nice lunch. H. W. BRYAN, Prop. Alice Mangels and Everett Watts Wed In Morning Rites . Two well known Wolf Point i young people were united in mar riage Monday morning when Alice 1 Lucille Mangels became the bride of Everett Bowen Watts at an 8:30 a. m. ceremony performed by the Rev. A. H. Cropp at the Pres byterian parsonage. Miss Dorothy Burr of Glasgow was bridesmaid and Leonard Au- 1 genstine, also of Glasgow acted as best man. Tne bride was attired in a two piece royal blue suit with a cor sage of talisman rosos and the bridesmaid wore a grey pin-stiped dressmaker suit with a smaller replica of the bride’s corsage. Mrs. Watts is the daughter of I Mr. and Mrs. Martin Mangels of i Kremlin. Mont., and is a graduate lof the Kremlin high school. She I has been employed as telegrapher at the Great Northern depot in Wolf Point for the past year. Mr. Watts is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Watts and is also a telegrapher at the Great Northern station. Immediately after the ceremony, the wedding party were guests at a wedding breakfast at the Wolf Point case. Those present were the bride and groom. Miss Burr, Mr. Augenstine, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Angels, Mrs. Mary Watts and Mrs. James Terry, Jr. The happy couple will keep on with their work and make their home in the new Styer apartment lon the north side. Blue Star War Mothers Honor Returned Soldiers The Lohmiller Blue Star war mothers honored several return ing soldiers with a delicious din ner on Friday evening, Jan. 18 at the Garfield community hall. Among those present were Wal lace Blacktail, Rov C. Track and WAVE Viola Standing. The dinner served two purposes, one for the welcome of the re turned soldiers, the other a cele bration of the birthday of Wal lace Blacktail. After the dinner the regular ceremonial dances be gan for the safe return of the soldiers. There was also a donation of money taken from the people present for the purpose of aiding un Indian combat veteran from the European theatre of. opera tions, .to his home in Browning, Mont. Poplar Couple Married at Fort Peck Sunday A wedding of county-wide inter est was that of Adella Zeige Davis and Superintendent Fuhrman As bury of Poplar who were married by ttie Rev. A. H. Cropp at the Luheran chapel at Fort Peck, last Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Attendants were the bride’s brother Charles Zeige and his wife Winifred Zeige. Both participants in the cere mony are well known in this sec tion of Montana, Mrs. Asbury hay. ing be<Sh a Montana girl most of her life. Mr. Asbury is superin tendent of the Fort Peck agency at Poplar, where the couple will continue to make their home. Farewell Dinner For Francis Rhea By Penney Staff The staff of the J. C. Penney store in Wolf Point gave a steak dinner Tuesday evening at the Wolf Point case club rooms, as a farewell gesture, honoring F. E. Rhea who has been manager of the establishment, during the ab sence of Parker Eldridge who served for the past two years with the navy. Mr. F. E. Rhea has been assign ed to the Penney store at St. Peter, Miinn., and left Wednesday morning for the new position. Mr. Eldridge returned to the manager ship of the local store on Tuesday morning. KLATTE VISITORS RETURN TO CALIFORNIA TODAY Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lee ac companied by Mrs. Lee’s twin brother, Albert, left this morning (Thursday) for their home in California. They were called north recently to Minot, N. D., where they attended the funeral of their aunt, Selma Cook. Mrs, A. R. Klatte was there, also, and return ed to her home in Wolf Point with them last week. DEAN DeWITT LEAVES FOR KLAMATH FALLS After a two weeks visit with relatives and friends in Wolf Point Dean DeWitt left Monday to spend the remainder of his leave from navy duty with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. DeWitt at Kla math Falls, Ore. MRS. LOCHNER VISITS IN WOLF POINT Mrs. Clara- Lochner of Nashua visited the past week at the T. Biikland, Lars Stensland and Mrs. Vern Hubbard homes in Wolf Point. Home Owned THE HERALD-NEWS — Wolf Point, Roosevelt County, Montana George Loftu^ Wolf Point’s fly. ing insurance man, made a forced landing last week when he was forced down due to water in the gasoline tank of the plane he was flying .back to Wolf Point. Mr. Loftus left Wolf Point on Jan, 18 for Minneapolis for the purpose of flying back a Deluxe Taylorcraft plane that hdd been purchased by Dr. R. D. Knapp and Dr. J. C. Mosca of this city. Taking off from the Northport airfield on Jan. 21 in the face of a fairly heavy head wind and in below-zero weather, Mr Loftus reached Fargo, N. Dak., in the late afternoon. While at Fargo he took time out to go to Moorhead, Minx., just across the river, where he visited with his daughter, Len nore, a student at Concordia col lege there. Leaving Fargo the next day, headed for Montana, Mr. Loftus landed and re-fueled at James town where a strong head-wind | was again encountered. Upon leav ing Jamestown and about 42 miles east of Bismarck while flying at around 500 feet, - Loftus’ motoi started to sputter and about 30 seconds later it failed completely. After a hasty appraisal of the landing possibilities Mr. Loftus managed a safe landing, just miss ing a number of fairly large rocks that w^re scattered about the field. Leaving the plane where he landed Loftus walked out to the highway and secured a ride from a passing motorist to Bismarck where he contacted airport offi cials. The aid of two airplane mechanics was secured and after an examination of the plane was made, about a pint of water was taken from the gas tank. The find ings of the mechanics were re ported to the CAA. Mr. Loftus stayed over night in Bismarck and proceeded westward, arriving in Wolf Point Wednes day afternoon where the .plane was turned over to its new owners. MRS. COFFEY CALLED TO CANADA BY WORD OF BROTHER’S DEATH Mrs. John Coffev ai 'd son Rob ert left Tuesday morning for Wey. burn, Sask., to attend the funeral of Mrs. Coffey’s brother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dreis. Mr. Dreis has been in poor health for some time and Mrs. Coffey plannned to leave soon to visit him when word of his death came this week. MARTIN BECKS ON EXTENDED TRIP EAST Mr. and Mrs. Martin Beck left Tuesday for an extended trip to the midwestern states which will include visits with their daughter Helen and Mr. Beck’s brother in Chicago They expect to be gone several weeks. PARKINS VISIT DAUGHTER IN WOLF POINT Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Parkins of North Dakota left Monday to con tinue on their way west for a visit with relatives and friends. VISIT WOLF POINT — Walter and Lawrence Jarley of the US navy are visiting their wives, the Littlefield sister, Lois and Georgia in Wolf Point this week. Hansen of Astor ia, Ore, was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Kemp of Wolf Point the past week. He had just returned after spending the past 35 months in the Pacific area having “visited” Australia, New Guinea, Okinawa, the Philippines and in Korea. CODY FAMILY VISIT LEO AT DICKINSON Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Cody and son Leßoy who is visiting them while on leave from the navy, went to Dickinson, N. Dak., the past week to visit Leo Cody who is attending school at Richardton nearby. They returned Tuesday from the trip. MRS. LANGDON JOINS HUSBAND IN WASHINGTON Mrs. Harriet Bull Langdon and son Carl, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Carl Bull left last week for Puyallup, Wash., where Captain Langdon has purchased a home for his family. Mrs. Bull will visit them long enough to see them settled in their new home. ANNE SKINNER LEAVES FOR NORTH DAKOTA VISIT Anne Skinner, sister of Mrs. Roy Hansen, left Wolf Point Sunday for York, N. Dak., where she will visit other relatives for a time. She will return to Wolf Point before leaving for the return trip to her home in Los Angeles.
