COUNTY AGENT KELLY
Elmer Dye of Bainville was in
the obher day to ask about rural
electrification. The first sign-up
for REA in this locality was made
three or four years ago. Elmer
was interested in finding out how
close the original sign-ups would
bring the line to his place east of
Bainville. A little checking up wfith
Hobert Wheeler of Froid indicates
that those first sign-ups only went
about as far east as Lanark and
then swung north.
Since Elmer was in, I have
found that Bill Harmon, Simards,
Romos and others south and east
of Bainville are actively interested
in getting REA into that locality.
The resuflt of all this interest will
probably be to stimulate activity
throughout the eastern part of
the county where REA sign-ups
'have not yet been made. Such
activity should determine whether
it is practical to extend REA lines
into these communities.
This looks like a mighty good
time to get started on setting up
these REA organizations. I plan
to get a little more detailed in
formation on where the lines have
been mapped and what can be done
about extending them further.
That information will be released
in this column as soon as we have
something definite to offer.
The 4-H club work is more or
less familiar to all of Us, but I
wonder whether we haven’t let our
thinking about it get into sort of
a rut. Here’s a new 4-H club pro
ject for older boys that’s interest
ing enough to get away from any
rut we may have fallen into. The
project is on tractor -maintenance
and is intended for boys who are
between 14 and 21 years of age
right now.
It is not necessary for boys who
are interested to have been 4-H
club members in the past. There
should be five or more bovs in
any such club although this is not
absolutely required. Five or more
boys setting up a club of this kind
should select a leader and get in
touch with me. Special training
can be given leaders at a meeting
probably in Sidney with expenses

I hope to hear from some inter

Larry Gdll of Fairview has an
article on the front page of the
January 15 “Montana Farmer.” It
is an interesting article with some
pretty sound thinking 'back of it.
You’ve probably read it already;
but if you haven’t. I think it
would be worth finding and read
ing. '
I’ve known Larry Gill for quite
awhile so have a personal interest
in the article, but I feel sure you
will be interested whether you
know him or not if you are inter
ested in some of the foundation
principles of livestock production.
