AMPUTEE VETERANS
MAY GET TRACTORS
Amputee veterans who are elig
ible for a government purchased
vehicle may purchase tractors
with accessories, within the {I6OO
limit, the Administrator of Veter
ans Affairs has ruled.
The VA pointed out, after care
fully considering the wording of
the law and the intent of Congress
as shown in the discussion pre
ceding passage of the bill, that
the law specifically names not
only automobiles, but "other con
veyances” including equipment
which will aid the veteran in
achieving his occupational aims.
The administrator said: "It ap
pears that the act was intended
to be of assistance in the case of
a disabled veteran who is a farmer,
where a tractor with suitable ac
cessories is necessary to perform
labors which he might formerly
have been ahle to manage afoot
with a horse and hand-operated
equipment, and to permit him to
manage afoot with a horse and

permit him to offset the decrease
in speed and ability normally re
sulting from an amputation and
compete successfully, financially
and otherwise, with able-bodied
individuals in the business.’’

PENSIONS TO WIDOWS
AND CHILDREN
Description: Monthly payments.
Widow alone, $42; widow and 1
child, $54; each additional child
$6. No widow but 1 child, $21.60;
2 children. $32.40; 3 children
$43.20; each additional child, $4.80.
Requirements: Service during
war period, but death not due to
service. Veteran at time of death
was receiving, or entitled to re
ceive compensation or retirement
pay for service-connected disa
bility. or at the time of death had
a disability for which compensa
tion would be payable if 10 per
cent or more in degree, and had
served 90 days or more with a
discharge under conditions other
than dishonorable or less than 90
days with a discharge for service
connected disability.
Widow must have been married
to veteran within 10 years after
termination of war. Widow’s pen
sion stops if she remarries, but
pensions to children 'may continue
until they are 18 or longer under
certain conditions.
Payments may not be made to
any widow with a child or chil
dren whose annual income ex
ceeds $2,500, or to any widow
without children whose income
exceeds SI,OOO, or any dependent
child with more than SI,OOO in
come.
