Page Two NEW SCHEDULES ARE RELEASED BY RAILWAY WESTBOUND WESTERN STAR TO ARRIVE IN WOLF POINT AT 12:45 A.M. EACH DAY; NEW STOPS IN GREAT FALLAS. The new train schedules providing direct service to Great Falls, will go into effect Tuesday. February 2S, according to an announcement released this week by the Great Northern Railway office at St. Paul. Under the new routing, the west bound Western Star (Train No. 3) will arrive in Culbertson at 11:35 pjn., Poplar at 12:20 a.m. and wolf Point a t12:45 a.m. daily. Having left St. Paul 25 minutes earlier the preceding day. Train No. 3 will reach Seattle and Port land at times now scheduled. The eastbound Western Star <Train No. 4) will arrive in Wolf Point at 4:40 a.m.. Poplar at 5:03 ajn. and Culbertson at 5:40 a.m. daily under the new routing. The train will leave Seattle in ac cordance with the present schedule, reaching St. Paul 35 minutes later each day. The Fast Mail Train No. 28. run ning between St. Paul and Seattle, will stop in Wolf Point at 5:20 a.m.. according to the revisions. The mail train will arrive in Culbertson at 6:30 a.m. and Bainville at 6:45 azn each day. Conditional stops formerly made by Trains 3 and 4 at Bainville, Brockton, Frazer, Nashua, Hinsdale and Dodson will be discontinued. Under the new routing, the Wes tern Star will travel between Havre and Shelby via Great Falls in both directions, rather than direct ly between Havre and Shelby. Great Falls has been served through connecting trains which met the Western Star at Havre and Shelby. ■ Arrival and departure times for the Western Star at Chicago, Seattle and Portland will remain unchang ed. Running time between the Twin Cities and Portland will be length ened by 25 minutes westbound and 35 minutes eastbound each day. \ The westbound Western Star\ leaving Chicago February 25 and the Twin Cities on February 25 will be the first to travel via Great Falls. Eastbound, the new service will be inaugurated with the Western Star leaving Seattle and Portland on Feb- ruary 25. With the re-routing of Trains 3 and 4, the Great Northern will discontinue Trains 221 and 222. 235 and 236 between Havre and Great Falls. Trains 42 and 43 will be discontinued between Great Falls and Shelby, also Trains 40 and 41 between Shelby and Sweet Grass. In running between Havre and Shelby, the Western Star will make regular stops at Big Sandy. Fort Benton. Great Falls. Dutton and Conrad. Passenger train serv ice will be discontinued to all other stations between these points. Trains 237 and 238 will continue to operate on the present schedule between Havre and Great Falls until arrangements nave been com pleted for a motor coach service over the highway to handle pas sengers to and from Trains 1 and 2. the Great Northern officials an nounced. The schedule of the westbound Empire Builder will not be changed, except for the fact that Train No. 1 will leave Glasgow and Wenatchee five minutes later than at present. Eastbound, the Empire Builder will leave all stations from Sky komish. Washington to Glasgow at earlier times. Under an optional route arrange ment, tickets reading to-or-from Havre, points east to-or-from Glacier Park and points west will be honored via Great Falls at no additional charge. New timetables are being pre pared. Complete distribution will be made as soon as possible. Great Northern officials concluded. ID I TO RI AL THE HERALD-NEWS. Wolf Point. Roosevelt County, Montana Movies Banned In Establishments Which Sell Beer “The showing of motion pictures in establishments which are licensed to sell beer is illegal." law en forcement officials reminded this week. Penalties for violations range from $25 to SSOO in fine, im prisonment in the county jail, not exceeding 90 days, or both fine and imprisonment. According to the law, each day durihg which a violation of the act "occurs and shall be permitted” will constitute a separate offense. The state law bans vaudeville shows. motion picture shows, variety shows and all forms of dancing in bars and night clubs with the exception of “social forms of dancing participated in solely by bona fide patrons." According to Clarence Golder, the Independent Theatre Owners of Montana have received a number of complaints regarding 16 m.m. films which are being shown in bars over the state. Theatres are paying a high Mon tana license tax. as well as local city taxes in most cases, s for the privilege of showing motion pic tures. Golder concluded. He serves as secretary-treasurer of the state association. Program Opens To Raise Funds For Mission Work i A “Conquest for Christ" program to raise $10,000,000 for mission ex pansion has been launched by the 15.000 congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, according to Rev. Walter Luedtke, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wolf Point. A large part of the money will be used to expand and improve facilities at the 14 Lutheran col leges and seminaries in existence and establish a new Lutheran sen ior college in the Chicago area, which will augment the present pro gram of ministerial preparation for Lutheran pastors. Over Ame-third of the proposed offering will be used to bolster the Lutheran mission program in every continent of the world. Here in America, about two new mission stations have been opened by the church each week. Rev. Luedtke stated. A house-to-house canvass will be conducted Sunday. March 23. so that members of the church will have an opportunity to pledge their contributions to "Conquest for Christ”. VT WKSHRUWaiS-SnMB WOLF POINT Scout Leaders Attend Meeting Held At Nd&hua Oliver Wagnild and' Tony Hanel were among 30 Boy Scout leaders who attended a" meeting of the Buffalo Plains Boy Scout District held at Nashua last week. District goals were established for the ensuing year. A Campingo activity committee meeting will be held at Culberisjn sometime in March, according to Mr. Wagnild. Campingo will be open to the boys May 16-17, he added. A group of Wolf Point Scouts will go to Opheim and Hinsdale and talk with boys who are organ izing new Boy ScoulK and Cub Scout troops. They als<A*vill travel to Poplar to help reorganize the Poplar Scout troop which has been inactive for a number of years. The next meeting will be held at 8 p.m. Monday. March 10. at Fort Peck, Wagnild concluded. Bus Company May Discontinue Round-Trip Run The Intermountain Transportation Company has filed an application for authority to discontinue a daily round-trip bus run being made be tween Glasgow and the Montana- Dakota line. The proposal calls for discon tinuation of the eastbound bus which leaves Glasgow at 1:50 p.m. and the westbound bus leaving Bainville at 1:27 a.m. According to the application, "the bus is operated at a loss and passenger volume does not warrant continued operation of the sche dule”. A hearing for the application will be held in the Glasgow courthouse at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 27.
