Now that the dust has settled, the crowds are gone, and Wolf Point residents are beginning to emerge from their annual state of post-Stampede exhaustion, the time is at hand to look back to see just what kind of a 4ffi[mpede we had in '54. "g We had a good Stampede! It was one of the Vetter celebrations in the history of Wolf Point. The parade has been rated “the best ever.” The show at the Stampede grounds was run smoothly and efficiently. Law and order was maintained. All in all it can be best described in one way—the best yet. . Most of th* credit for this years outstanding cele bration* goes to the Stampede committee—Frank Hanel, chairman and member of the concessions committee; Bill Reichert, secretary; Russell Ahlberg and Peyton Terry, in charge of advertising and booster trips; Loren Casey, Everett Baker, Peyton Terry and Gene Ablin, in charge of the parade; R. E. Coffey, float chairman; Douglas Mahlum. ticket manager; Cliff Mawhinney, concessions committee; Les Zimmerman and Art Zer vas, band committee; John Witte, treasurer, and last but certainly not least, Russel Lowe, manager. These men donated endlessly of their time and labor to make the ’54 show a success. Probably few people realize the time involved in co-ordinating and performing the many necessary tasks in putting on a good Stampede. They weren’t paid for their work— they didn’t even get passes to the Stampede for their families. Special credit also must go to the many mer chants who entered floats in the parade. The 1954 parade can be rated “the best ever.” Here again few observers realize the time and effort involved in building a presentable float. These merchants put'their time, labor and money into the floats for hut one purpose—to help make the Stampede better than ever. Also deserving of credit are the many horsemen, who entered the parade, and the Charro club for its work in arranging for them. Yes, we had a good Stampede and a truly fine western celebration. Our hats are off to the new Stampede committee and to Wolf Point's citizens and business men.
