Page Two Wolf Point Local and Social Items Area Presbyterial Held in South Dakota New Officers Elected The spring meeting ol Dakota Presbyterial met in Greenwood, South Dakota on April 21-24. 1955. The purpose of the organization is to further the work of the Kingdom of God by uniting the women of the Presbyterian Church in spiri tual, fellowship, with a program of education, service, prayer and giv ing. The emphasis is in the wide work of the Presbyterian Church as promoted through the Board of National Missions. Foreign Missions and Christian Education. The Presbyterial began with the meeting of the Executive Board and Secretaries on Thursday morning. The meeting Thursday afternoon consisted of Dedication of the Day by Mrs. Tena Gilbert; Welcome and Hospitality, Mrs. Zelma Zephier; President's Report. Mrs. Alice Fast horse; Reading of the Minutes. Mrs. Edith Red Buffalo; Look! Buy! Read!, Mrs Grace Moore and Closing Meditation by Mrs. Lucy Deon. , peleggtes from various churches in the Dakota Presbytery also gave reports. On Friday morning. Mrs. Cece lia LaPointe and World Service De partment spoke on objectives and goals of the Presbyterial. Dedication of the Day. “Christ the ‘Way", began the Friday after noon program. There was also a re port of delegates, business, recom mendations and election of officers. Op Saturday morning, Mrs. Ruth Phillips, Program and Fellowship Departments led the discussion on “The Department Recommends". Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Rose Firecloud began the meeting with Dedication of the Day. Janet E Hodson who recently returned from India gave an interesting report on Foreign Missions. Mrs. Estella Cropp, Treasurer, gave the finan cial report for 1954. Mrs. Cropp who is leaving Dakota Presbyterial was presented with a gift from the or ganization. Mrs. Curtis Winkle will uuceeed Mrs. Cropp as Treasurer. Mrs. Edna Clapp. Synodical Presi dent. spoke on Fellowship of Fol lowers followed by the installation of officers and dedications. Rural Students Visit Wolf Point Telephone Office As part of “Visiting Day" held Friday by rural schools of Roose velt county, Mrs. Caroline Styer and nine students of the Pioneer school veiled the Mountain States Telephone 'office. Mrs. Irene Eck talked to the students about the duties of the telephone operators and Maria Krauth explained phases of the work of the Commercial depart ment. -. . Manager R. E. Reed and Mobile Serviceman, Herb Hanson, demon strated the use of the Mobile tele phone. Several students enjoyed talking on the Mobile Phone. FORTY WOMEN ATTEND CARD PARTY AT ELKS LODGE Entertaining at ten tables of des sert bridge on Saturday afternoon in the Elks Ladies Lounge were Mrs. Henry J. Hamill. Mrs. Nor ven Langager. Mrs. Kermit Tjon, Mrs. Morris Wright and Mrs. Don Johnson. A May Day motif was used with Maj Poles centering the tables and May Baskets filled with candy and nuts. Prizes for high, second high, cut, low and second low were won by Mrs. Milton Sethre, Mrs. John C. Witte, Mrs. Joe Casey, Mrs. James J. Boyd and Mrs. Bruce Randall, respectively. Among the women attending the District Federated Womens’ Club Convention held in Poplar, April 29 and 30, were Mrs. O. L. Jarrell, Mrs. Fred Willoughby and Mrs. W. L. Young representing the Senior Womens' Club of Wolf Point and Mrs. William B. McCracken repre senting the Civic Womens’ Club, Wolf Point. Also in attendance for the evening banquet on Friday were Mrs. Fred Ahrens, Mrs- Delmar Kamper and Mrs. Margaret Gulhpls. The 26 members of the Circle sang a couple of songs in opening the program- Mrs. Robert Beery read two musi cals entitled ’.‘The Usual Way” and "It Takes a Heap of Living in a House to Make a Home”. Mrs. Ed die Rothe sang "The Green Cathed ral". All the musical numbers were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. L. W. Zimmerman. Mrs. Glenn Bol gen shared a few favorite readings and poems with the group. Games and stunts were played with prizes won by Mrs. Thomas Johnson, Con rad, Mont-, Mrs. Bob Penner and Mrs. Richard Shrader. During the evening a Parcel Post Sale was held and the Circle’s boxes of cards and wrappings were on display. A dainty lunch of var ious cookies and sandwiches were served. House Warming Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Sorensen were honored Saturday evening with a Housewarming Party in their new home located about six miles east of Wolf Point on Highway No. 13. A potluck buffet-styled dinner was served. The tables were graced with May Day decorations of candlesand flowers. The honered couple receiv ed a gift from the group. THE HERALD-NEWS, Roosevelt County, Wolf Point, Montana Officers Nominated For Coming Year Officers for the coming year were nominated at the Women's Civic Club meeting held Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Bar bara Langager. Dorothy Herting assisted the hostess. Nominated officers were Eleanor Berry for president, Mary Ann Rodenberg for vice president, Gladys Jensen for secretary, Ca milla Larson for recording secre tary and Louise Ostby for treasur er. Hope McCracken gave a report on the District Convention at Pop lar and slides were shown on home decorating, both modern and tra ditional. A committee was appointed for the picnic which will be the last meeting of the season. PARENTS URGED TO ATTEND PTA OFFICER INSTALLATION Parent-Teachers Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 12, at the Elementary Gym be ginning at 8 p.m. Past-president Mrs. E. Bilyeu urges a good at tendance at this meeting to insure the new officers, who will be in stalled, the cooperation of the parents and teachers. Wins Bowling Prize Among the 4,000 keglers who competed in the Montana State Bowling Tournament at Butte, re cently, Mike Wolf won 42nd place in the singles. winning SIO.OO. Carlson made the Honor List at Eastern Montana College in Billings. Pink and Blue Shower A pink and blue shower was held for Mrs. Gilbert Bruhn last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. John Plouffe. Those attending were Mrs. Dale Morin. Mn and Mrs. Robert Lingle were Wolf Point visitors on Tues day of this week. They live on the Martin Sethre farm north of Wolf ^oint. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dolvm left last Wednesday for Seattle. Wash., on a pleasure and business trip. They plan to be gone about a month. George Heffelfinger and T. J. Beggs, Minneapolis, were in Wolf Point on Tuesday of this week on business with the Ocident Ele vator Co. Enjoying the weekend at the Saco Hot Plunge were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sorlcy and children Mary Ann and John, Bobby Knapp and Jim mie Ablin. Mr. and Mrs. Thorvald Jensen and Mrs. Ed T. Jensen left Tues day morning for Billings where Mrs. Thorvald Jensen will under go surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Cowen re turned Saturday evening from a week’s trip visiting Mr. Cowen’s mother, Mrs. Mary Cowen, Fort Morgan, Colorado. Vida Royal Neighbors Lodge mot Tuesday Afternoon at the home of Mrs. Al Huber. Because of the stormy weather there were only a few ladies present. Elder Mills left last Thursday for his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, after receiving his release from his two-year mission with the Latter Day Saints in Great Falls. Sunday School and Wednesday School Teachers meeting was held Tuesday evening in the parlors of First Lutheran church with seventeen members present. Zimmerman entertained Nelson and Neal who appeared in the piano-duo con cert last Wednesday evening at breakfast in their home Thursday morning. They also entertained their fourteen-months old son. John. Leaving on Saturday for San Francisco. Calif., were Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shumsky. They will visit with their son Donald who sails for Japan, May 9.
