Famous Horse Ranch of Years Ago.
—from the Powder River County Examiner.
One of the oldest ranches in Powder River County is the
Harold Bull ranch on Otter creek. It originally was the Olivci
Wallop horse ranch.
Wallop, who came from a noble English family and who
later inherited his title as Earl of Portsmouth, was sent to tins
country in the 1870's to learn the cattle business. He came direct
from England to Cheyenne, Wyo From Cheyenne he walked to
Otter creek where he established one of the most famous hot ■
ranches of the West He built stud barns that are still standing
as well as the finest corrals.
Wallop paid a bullwhacker SSOO to teach him the cattb busi
ness. The bullwhacker put him on night herd for the 34 head
of bulls that he owned. Aftei a month of this Wallop realiz< d
that he had been gypped, that he was not learning the cattle
business.
At one time Wallop ran about 2.500 head of horses He main
tained a training stable at Audubon, low a. The horses were
trailed from Otter creek to Belle Forche, S. I), lot shipment to
