LAS VEGAS TIMES VOLUME II. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, JUNE 2. 1906. _NUMBER II. pm W THE_ I mow PINE Besides the Great Potosi Mine There Are Numerous Good Looking Pros pecta and Many Locations. LEAD. ZINC, COPPER. SILVER. The Irish Group of Six Claims Shows Well With Features of Making a Producer. MUCH PROSPECTING BEING OONE. . P W. H. Harrigan. who has steadily been pinning his faith to the lead, sil ver, copper and zinc belt In the Pototfl range west 30 miles from I-as Vegas. Is in town securing supplies and am munition for rtirther prospecting and exploration work in his chosen terri tory. The district in which he operates is known as the Yellow Pine and Includes a mineral section so promising as ta assure with good work additional pro ducers besides the great Potosi mine. He earnestly urges that the field is one of immense possibilities, and like all Nevada districts, extensive in those evidences that gives the prospectoi and tniulng man confidence. I> Irish gtoup, owned by McCauley ., at fifteen feet of depth has an **d ore body of two feet four inch it give 30 per cent copper and 2t 1 silver. There are six claims in roup, namely, the Irish Boy, the Wandering Boy, the Fake No. 1 lo. 2. Beside® the values special mtioned it carries lead and zinc rein is a spar. The leads of thh rty are traceable on surface alon? aims. Besides the main lead there ringers and feeders, oner Camp and Taylor have a 30 tunnel on their group of claim® are on the dump of this tunnel peaks for the showings that thest ;rs have.— oinlng this property is the Sum Steell and Maxwell group, typcal It is understood, are negotiat deal on the latter holding. As copper oxides as were evei ;ht into Las Vegas, are on exhi i with various parties. Some ol this ore carries as high as 83 per ceBt copper. What Is true of the properties men tioned could be duplicated with the holdings that other prospectors hare in the district. Suffice It to say that it is a field that will exact actual min lug and development and whin this is done there is no doubt of the result. Such is the confidence of the claim owners. o - — FROM GOOD SPRINGS. Hon. Frank Williams was in town from the Good Springs district during the early part of the week. He reports steady progress being made by the prospectors and miners in developing that disrrfet. He reports aiso that lately tl»e workers have discovered what they supposed was ledge matter was ore giving values of from 31 to 50 per cent zinc. This discovery in creases the value of many of the hold ings In the district double. The zinc bears in proportion of lead, silver val ues. A number of properties from this district are shipping ore to the smelter at Salt Ijike. Much of the transporting of ore will be avoided in future when the smelting plant at Good Springs is completed. THE COPPER WORLD. Denier, Monahan and Murphy of the Needles. California, will commence to operate the Copper World west of lvan pah in the near future. The mine was tvorked years ago and produced large quantities of copper at that time, but owing to the excessive cost of getting the metal to market the property has been idle this long time. Railroads have solved these troubles and as a consequence the Copper World will be in action again. It is the purpose of the new mine owners to have the Needles smelter en larged to meet the demands of copper ore for treatment from the old Ivanpah belt. -o THE JACK RABBIT. E. G. Greening and L. A. Scowden, well known capitalists In the Nippeno Mining district of California, will at tempt to make the Jack Rabbit mine of Crescent, a producer.^ A good grade of ore and large quan tities of second grade ore is the assur ance of thts property: — _ -o Capt. Lawton, While at Las Vegas, | Speaks of the Wonderful Resources of the-bullfrog Section. THE CLARK ROAD MEANS MUCH. — When It Strikes the Portals of Gold Center the Mining Development Will be With Leaps and Bounds. m LOCATION, RESOURCES. WATER SUPPLY. W. D. Lawton, the Gold Centei banker, was a visitor at l«as Vegas Monday. Mr. Lawton is well known as a financier; as a keen, sound busi ness man and one whose experience in handling large western enterprises makes bis counsel and opinion one of great weight. He has unbounded faith and confidence in the future of what he terms the real gateway to the greatest and richest mining district in the world today—the Bullfrog coun try. He fittingly places the merits and advantages of Gold (’enter and its contrtbutary resources in the follow ing comparative way: "One year ago Goldfield was consid ered the richest and most extensive gold bearing territory in the west. While the Goldfield section has Its wonder makers it is but the simple statement of a fact when I say that today the Bullfrog district exceeds, [not alone in the size of its mineral zone, but in richness, in tonnage capacity, having larger ore bodies of both low and high grade quality. It is essentially a district In which the wage earner receiving good wages will be the means of making prosper ous the business factors so essential to a live city or town. "The sturdy tin-bucket brigade to day is great, but a few years hence I can fancy it in the numerous thou sands with a volume of money in ex change and in the channels of trade as per capita larger than that of any other point in the country. “The Bullfrog country has larger Assure veins. These are so plentiful that so eminent an authority as John' Hays Hammond has pronounced them so remarkable as rather to he a great mineralized reef which with develop ment work would enrich the world's market with more precious metals than would he extracted from the South African gold zone. This opinion of the world’s eminent mineralogist is having its proof through the work that reveals the Immense ore bodies of the Shoshone, Gold Bar. Tramp, The Rush and their companion fortune seekers—great values and permanency is a perfect demonstration. “These assurances are bringing many travelers and permanent resi dents to our section. “The shrewdest mining men of the world are interested and like the wide awt^ke that are making fortunes, new ones are coming in and acquiring mining property and commencing operations to make newer and greater bonanzas than already opened in and around Gold Center and Rhyolite. The coming of the Clark road will plant machinery at a reasonable cost at the gates of Cold Center. Many of the mine owners are awaiting the touch of this commercial artery in or der to secure their machinery and lumber and materials In quantities to facilitate the large operations neces sary to produce, handle and reduce the great bodies of ore in the Gold .Center and Rhyolite section. "When the masterly enterprise of .Senator Clark will reach Gold Center the population and enterprises of the Gold Center Bullfrog envious will be manifold to what it is today. It will be forward with leaps and bounds Then will be the time when the artisan and business men wiil gain a real prestige and acquire a prosperous re ward that cannot be matched; it will be then that onr wonderful resourced1 —that which makes Gold Crater and Rhyolite so lively and famed today will emblazon the world with all their greatness and richness. "From thence it will be a steady and onward march to sr. eater Indus trt*l achievement*. It will be the means of giving employment In mines anil mills to thousands of worker* to produce and reduce the great low ore bodies that are near Gold Center and j for fifteen miles east of Gold Center. Reiltdes being the natural milling and ! mttrng headquarters for this grear { rk$ section Gold Center will be the commercial supply point for the thou sand* of miners snd allied Interests In all that great country. fflBToday we are driving the biggest ) tSttncl, the largest prospect undertak en In the Bullfrog country right at the | doers of Gold Center. The tunnel is 1 in 300 feet, its size is S feet high t> feet wide and when finished will he over 0.000 feet in length. This tunnel will cut numerous large ore bearing bodies or leads. It has already ex posed a number of large sized fissures, each one revealing values that will pay to handle on a lnrge scale. ‘ Mark. Gold Center will be the city of the Bullfrog country. It has the location; it has the resources; it has the water supply to make It such.” • ————o CITIZENS ENTITLED TO ROAR Severe and Monumental Hardships Imposed on Every Citizen in At» tendance on Court While Term Is In Session From the Caliente Express: The term of the District Court was noi very successful so far as the criniina\ part was concerned this term. There were but three convictions at this term of court by the jury and two plead guilty. It was feared for a time the 'Tow Boy Nell” gang would escape and as it wras, they came mighty near doing so. George O. Sawyer got free as did ex-Treasurer Goodrich, but even in the face of thetr having done so does loot dispute the fact that there was 'morey taken from the treasury In big ‘gobs” and who managed to get It is left to a wondering and inquisitive rtiblic. may be added that the prosecution has had the efTect of bettering condi tions to the extent that county affairs are more safely guarded now than they were one short year ago. Our opinion to further better the business interest of the county would be to move the county seat rrom its temporary location. Pioche is too far distant from the more thickly popu lated portions of the county, and the trip imposes hardships that could he remedied were the permanent county seat located in a more central location and at a place more easy of access. We believe there has been but few people who have attended court but have expressed disgust both as to he cation and the inconveniences they have to endure. It is time for the people to take a serious view of tills matter and to take steps to relieve themselves on all future occasions from further incon venience. There has been a political click or gang in the temporary county seat who have dominated the political siffairB ever since the county has been formed. They have succeeded in ac cumulating a bonded indebtedness which has passed to Judgment amount ing to the collossal and stupendous sum of >651,000, and if for this fact, it for no other reason, some other and more convenient locality ought to be designated and selected for the per manent county seat. Give us a change from start to fin ish. from the temporary county seat to the constable of Das Vegas, and then some. .. ..n MUNN JUMPS THE TOWN. Piochera Try to Make Him Continue Or Go to Jail. B. 3. Munn of the Pioche Cafe at the temporary county seat concluded to go out of business last week, owing a number of bills. His creditors got out a warrant for his arrest, but the system of enforcing a criminal charge to collect an account failed a full city block. They never as 'much as got within seeing distance. Munn Is still at large. The peculiar part of the business was the attempt to make him continue business by a legal process when the business as a paying venture was out of joint. -o DISTRICT COURT. In the case of Nell, the warehouse man at the Vegas in the employ of the railroad company, came off mighty lucky and was pronounced not guilty by the jury. The acquittal of Robert Shafer for having taken a shot at George Col lins w'as a popular verdict and was commented favorably upon by every body who was in any way acquainted with the story. -o ONE OF BE8T KNOWN MINING MEN H. S. Josephs, one of the leading mining men of the west, with his ex pert, Ed Hoffman from Salt iAUce, has been in the Vincent Mining district ex amining mining claims. Mr. Josephs, for himself and associates, represents the strongest kind of capital in thd west and when his combination be come interested In a mining section of a country it always signifies “things a' doing." Mr. Josephs did not say much, but the significant wink of that keen eye of his with the assertion it is a mighty good looking country, and the leads are a great showing, meant something. On the quiet, partner, he has his eye on something, and when the papers are fully signed up it will be something like those great mogul engines on the railroad, nothing will stop except clos ing the valve.
