They have selected S. F. Whitney,
an experienced mining man from Halt
Dake, as superintendent and supplied
him with a corps of miners who are
thorough in their business to execute
the work of development and extract
the ore that has such sensational
values.
What are these miners doing, under
the Intelligent direction of Mr. Whit
ney? Why. they are sacking high
grade ore from the surface and driv
ing a tunnel on the east vein all In
ore.
The Colorado magnates who were
shrewd enough to secure a good thing
when they saw It, departed for their
homes, after making their payment
and giving directions to their super
intendent and working force, in a
happy mood, feeling confident that
their purchase would mean a great
fortune for them and their support
ers. They have absolute faith in the
great wealth-making features of this
property. A failure is not on the
cards, for the stuff is sticking right
out of the ground, and all they have
to do is to go to sacking ore and keep
on sacking it while they prosecute the
development of the hidden ore bodies,
and the hTdden ore bodies are in the
ground. Nature in all its primary
mineral features and signs never ex
celled this section In which the rich
exposed ore cropping of the Quo Va
dis finds Its homing. The veins with
their values are there. The formation
—diorite, andesyte, bird's-eye porphy
ry with its exposed or intrusive gran
ite is there. The blossom that at
tracted the experienced miner, with
not the one hundredth showing, to tilg
down in Searchlight and make the
great gold mines of Nevada, are here

Connecting the Quo Vadts group
and possessing the identical geologi
cal features are the holdings of the
Golden Triangle Mining and Develop
ment company To give the reader
somewhat of an idea as to the great
surface indications of the Quo Vadls
group, the Times reproduces the ob
servations of a prominent mine oper
ator and merchant. N. A. Kuhn, of Las
Vegas, as follows:
“I have visited the -principal gold
camps of the United 8tates. I have
inspected the principal mines of these
camps, and have been In various sec
tions where strikes were first made,
and will simply Ptate that the show
ing made on the Quo Vadis claim of
Catlin brothers of Camp Vincent has
certainly the very best Indications I
have ever seen, without any exception
whatever.
“It is beyond comprehension that it
has lain so long unprospected, as the
conditions are ideal. An eroded sad
dle between two small mountains, on
both of which mountains, as well as
across the saddle, very strong anil
well defined fissure veins can not only
be traced, but one can stand in the
vale below and see them standing up
like fortress walls, challenging the
hardy prospector to battle and force
these veins to yield their incalculable
riches—riches that are sticking right
up out of the ground, two, four, six
and in one place twelve fe'et high.
“From these outcrops rook can be
broken which will pan from $!> to $7
per pound, not simply selecting sam
ples, but every bit on the foot wall
for 16 or 18 inches. (Some picked
samples have returned $33,600 per
ton. I This outcrop of ore Is hundreds
of feet in length. The ore on, the
footwall at the shaft is also very rich.
About 12 inches gives returns of over
$800 per ton.
"A shaft sunk to the east of the
rich surface outcrop and in the hang
ing reveals a continuous body of good
grade ore, barring the rich foot wall
streak.
“In places several parallel Assures
plainly outcrop and a number of cross
veins are also seen in these moun
tains of eruptive |>orphyry, diorlte and
exposed granite in places.
“The lucky prospectors and miners
refused a princely offer from Nathan
Gregg (this was prior to the purchase
by Philips & McKinniel of the Gregg
Investment company, of Denver, who
j states that it is the best prospect he
I ever saw in California, Nevada. I'tah.
| Idaho. Wyoming, New Mexico, Afizona
or Colorado. It. X. Dawson of the
Death Valley M. & M. company says
the same. John J. Owens, the noted
Tonopah operator, pronounces it a
wonderful showing.
“It is the opinion of such that an
immense ore body exists and that
other claims when prospected will
make equally good showings.
“Of these is the group of the Gold
en Triangle Mining and Development
company, a local company that has
excellent showings on some of its
claims, having quartz and red ore or
like characteristics as Quo Vadis
showings. This company has started
work and is liable to make a showing
at any time that will startle Nevada.
The rich ore is not only in one place.
Characteristics and geologic features
and conditions are most favorable to
these calculations. It is a gold belt
carrying other mineral values. An
other claim, the Idlewild, has a large
deAned vein of the same ore that pre
dominates.
“At the Happy Jaca a cross vein
follows Into the Ben Hur claim. Tho
Happy Jack has good ore uncovered
l>y location work.

lifetime for the prospector who de
velops. The opportunity is ripe. Pur
chasers for such property are rushing

ing property and stocks of contiguous

make ‘great profits.' Besides the Quo
Vadis owners the Golden Triangle
and the Banner Mining companies are
doing development work in the dis
trict, even in this hot season.
“Great Is the Vincent mining dis
trict, but greater stUl will be Its fame
when the tread and the tramp of the
great mining forces of a. nation will
move in operating power with cooler
weather.”

The Eldorado mining district has
been known as a rich producer of the
precious metals for these many years,
since the early sixties. The methods
in vogue to make the seams and min
eral-bearing zones of this section give
up their wealth have been the old,
worn out methods that used to try
the souls of our fathers. Yet with
the arrastra and by chlortd
ins the Eldorado produced more thnn
its $50,000,000 in gold and silver. If
sttch were the great results by the ot>
S($h>te process, what can be expected
frbni this rich’belt with the applica
tion of modern machinery and meth
ods of mining that are beginning to
be introduced into the Canon coun

The days of the Wall Street und
the Tacbntecup were considered the
halcyon days of southern Nevada.
The next decade will make this dis
trict the glory of the mining man. for
tlfe rich ores of the days gone by on
surface are having thdlr demonstra
tion at depth, only richer and larger
bodies; and. what is more, there are
»u> quantity of properties in the dis
trict that will do just as the Tael)ate
cup is doing—they will go down and
from the lower levels the richest ore
will be brought forth.
Capital here has a rich and pro
ductive field. The opportunities for
the investment of surplus capital to
gain great returns on the investment
by the automatic process are un
excelled. A knowledge of this min
eral section and its possibilities
causes the Times pleasure to mention
the fact that two such well known
prospectors and claim owners as Ja
cob Stoner and Sandy Harris were in
I,as Vegas Friday sectoring supplies
for a full summer's campaign on their
rich claims in the Eldorado belt
Jake Stoner, one of the best known
and most respected owners of claims
in the river belt. Is peculiarly fortun
ate in the ownership of valuable prop
erty. He owns the Bell group of four
claims. Three of these claims, the
Bell, the Climax, the Buckeye, side
line, while the Hunover is an exten
sion of the Bali. * This is rich prop
erty. From an assay made by Smith
and Hecker it was found that a sam
ple from an 8-foot streak gave .56
gold, or $11.57, 923.5 ounces sliver,
worth $618.74, or a total ton value of
$630.31. *
Twenty ttauiple.H taken by John Mc
Gee, a mining engineer from Butte,
for JOO feet along the lead, and repre
senting an average of five feet, makes
stich a showing as to assure Ihe own
er more than a prospector's riches.
Sandy Harris has equally good
property adjoining the Bell group. Be
sides, he owns flve claims a few miles
further north tjiat are rich in gold.
He has a 60-foot shaft on one of the
claims, ail in ore. The writer saw
this property when the shaft was at
40 feet. A cross cut then revealed
about twelve feet of a vein carrying
gold values clean across, with a two
foot streak going into the hundreds
and an eighteen-inch streak making a
response of $80 per ton.

ors are beginning to make Uis Vegas
their base of supplies. Prices are
easy and good roads attract them.

Billy Bishop, too, was there, and
Dobbs; and what curves that ball had
as it slid by the batters when they
thought they had a sure striker. Oh,
the whole thing was great. The next
game will be properly announced.
