The second trial of Mrs. G. J. Zink, charged with disturbing the peace of the Tonopah public school, came on in Justice Liudsays court last Mon day. A venire of thirty-four jurors was drawn, from which the following served : Wesley Warren, Harry King, John Brissel, W. McGonagill, W. S. Elliot, Zeb Kendall, Harry Meads, D. Greenwoid, J. Cuddeback, W. F. Meiggs, Joe Burgess and E. Marks. Will Pittman conducted the prosecution, P. M. Bowler appearing for the defense. The evidence in the case was the same as adduced in the previous trial. After submission and being out about ten minutes, the jury rendered a verdict of guilty and rec ommended the defendant to the mercy of the court. Mrs. Zink was thereupon fined $1 and costs of court. Her husband is a hard-working, peaceable man, and for this reason Judge Lindsay made costs and fine light as possible. There was no de sire on the part of the prosecution to be harsh, but the school officials were compelled to establish a precedent and enforce the law so as to insure protection for the schools iu future. The Hall Games. The "Bonanzas" turned the tables on the "Orange Blossoms" in the game last Sunday, defeating them by a score of 16 to 1 1. Considering the poor condition of the grounds the boys put up a very fair game. , With practice and a good diamond, Tono pah could boast the best base ball club in the state. It is only right that all who are interested in good clean sport such as may al ways be witnessed at the ball ground should get behind the boys and en courage them to get a team together that can win the state championship It is anticipated that a base-ball tournament will be held in Virginia City about the Fourth of July : what's the matter with sending a team from Tonopah, to bring home the laurels ? The material is here, and the players are willing workers; if the citizens will see that thev have a good dia mond the boys will do the rest. Each team has won a game with one tie. The next meeting will decide the win ners of the series. Weather per mitting, a game will be played Sun Harris Sentenced. Judge Hawley, of the United States District Court, in the case of J. H. B. Harris, overruled the ex ception and denied the motion inter posed by his counsel for stay of judg ment. Under terms of the sentence Mr. Harris will be confined in the Storey county jail for a term of nine months. Judge Hawley explained that out of consideration for the prisoner's age and his environments for several years past, he was mak ing the sentence as light as possible. He was convicted before a jury a few days ago of using the mails for the transmission of an obscene letter, and his arrest and trial was brought about by the postal authorities.
