The Reno Telegram says: "The advent of the railroad will prove a sad blight to Tonopah. The people will then buy away from home and the town's merchants will then take in pennies where now they receive dollars. Besides the removal of the teams will take from the town thou sands monthly which it now receives for feed, blacksmith bills, to say noth ing of the money which the hundred teamsters and hostlers scatter around the camp." Not on your tintype. Tonopah don't fear the advent of the railroad one jot. When the iron horse arrives this thrifty mining town will do as much teaming, if not more, than it does now, for then Tonopah will be a supply center, distributing goods and mining material to the nu merous camps that are being devel oped in southwestern Nevada. In Course of lted Tape. It is expected that the Walker Lake reservation will be thrown open to settlement in about 6ix months. An appropriation for allot ment and survey was made at the last session of Congress. The reser vation will not be thrown open until a survey has been made and allot ments in eeveralty have been made to the Indians.' The department is just about proceeding to take action in the matter, as now it has got only so far as to ask for price from the state papers for- publishing a notice inviting proposals for the services of surveyors. After the survey and allotments have been made a proc lamation will be issued by the presi dent stating the terms on which the reservation will be thrown open to settlement. Western Ore Purchasing Co. In a note to the Bonanza Charles Snyder, general manager of theWes tern Ore Purchasing company, gives the following correction of a reporto- rial error: "In your mention of my being in camp last week, you stated that the ore purchased was to be re duced at our Reno plant. This is very misleading, as we do not treat any ore here only sample and buyii. transit. Every pound of our pur chases is forwarded to the Salt Lake smelter of the American Smelting and Refining company for treat ment." Ited Ilock. The directors of the Red Rock Con solidated Mining company met May 1st and elected the following officers: President, J. B. Lindsay; vice-president, D. F. McCarthy; secretary and treasurer, 1 Hugh H. Brown. This company owns the Red Rock, Red Rock No. 1, Red Rock No. 2 and Egyptian claims, and join the Ohio- Tonopah and McNamara. Work will begin at an early date. It may not be generally known that persons who from carelessness or any cause take mail from the postoffice that belongs to another and fail to return the same are liable to a fine of $300 or one year's imprisonment. This applies to newspapers thus taken as well as to other mail matter, i AGENTS FOR California Powder Co.
