A View of Boston-Tonopah Co's. Model Hoisting Plant Grade Exposes Surface Lode Strata Southeast ern Slope of Mt. Oddie Showing Shafts of Mizpah-Extension and Belmont Mines. THE mine plant recently put in commission at the Boston-Tonopah shaft is as perfect combination of ap pliances a h modern mechanical science can make. The 50 h. p. boiler, the "Economic," built by the Krie works, is of an approved and improved pattern, capable of sup plying the engines with steam to reel up feet of Inch cable with cages and loaded cars on the end thereof und not half try. The hoist is a double cylinder, direct acting und close geared, under absolute and perfect control. The system of water supply is successfully arranged with a sharp-eye t o complete economy in its usage. A separ ate and independent gasoline engine controls the mine ventilation, oper- i ' s - i-iJ1 Boston utinjr the blower or exhuust fan as I ... . . , desired. The mine yard, shops and j mngsuine are supplied with nil of everything and everything handy, lie wIioIh being kept in superb order. The works have telephone connection with "Central." The company claims, comprising the Reptile, Broadstreet, I'edro, Ne vada Queen, Pinto and May Day i cover and cross the central portion I of Mt. Ararat, which is the next rise ! lying east and northeast of Mt. Oddie. The claims adjoin the North i Star, Miznah-fx tension ai.d the iipsy Queen, being about 5(10 feet north and northwest of the side lines of the Tonopah-1 telniont Development 'o.'s grounds. A well mineralized fiis sure extends through the andesite in u course north by five' degrees east "Hard Times" Party. The "Hard Times" party given at -Miners' Exchange Hall last Monday evening, by the ladies of the Episco pal congregation, was a splendid suc cess socially and over 1250 was netted for the church. The hall was full and everybody was everywhere at "nee in order to enjoy all the fun 'hat was going on. Delicious ice cream and lemonade were served by the ladies and the dancing was inter spersed with a delightful musical program. The violin solos given by Milton Ish and the piano music by Russel Joy were delightful and re ceived with great appreciation. Solos were given by Misses Knapp, Roach and Seheneman and instru mental music by Mrs. Stewart. Mrs. Knight recited "Lasca" and U. V. Iiuilap told a number of funny stories in his inimitable southern f m for a distance of 3,200 feet. Along the readily traceable line of the ledge the quartz is variously solid or de composed, random surface samples of which range from $9 to $33 per ton gold. Where a wide grade or roadbed has been cut out to reach and in course of placing the works there is disclosed a surface body of cemented ledge matter strongly resembling certain California "drift" mines. This contains gold in a free state, of sufiicient value per ton of matrix to become pay in course of time as cheaper und the best facilities may be introduced. At this writing the two compart ment shaft is down 230 feet, going through a stratum of tough, blue porphyry. Two eight-hour shifts A " ' ii i, U - Tonooah Works. Loonin? In its descent the shaft passed through a flow of iron-stained por phyry to the second change as stated. At the present outlook the "hxle" porphyry will be encountered about the 500. From this level a crosscut will be extended to the vein mentioned, which has a slight uip northeasterly. Altogether the up faulting apparent on the mountain, with subsequent erosion disclosing the ledge In place, presents a most way. Short order fortunes were read from the palm by Miss Martha Hicks for any kind of a silver consid eration. Court was in session all evening on the platforn were Judge J. J. Sawle tried all sorts of culprits, who were arrested by Jack McKen zie and Billy Jones as policemen. Men were fined for dancing with their wives and for not having any wives to dance with, for being dressed up and for failing to be dressed up; for threatening matri mony and for evincing no intent to comply with that regulation. Mr. Curtis was Lord High Rustler of the evening and auctioned off cakes at $5 a piece in a manner that would have put a Midway spieler to shame. He was ably ussisted by Jack Sals berry and Billy Douglass. The pleasure and financial success of the evening is due to the management of favorable showing for a big mine, since the country rock is of the char acter to yield depositions of both the white and yellow metals. An inter esting fact, also, is that, like the west face of Mt. Oddie, the strata dip to the northeast and directly un der the overcapping of igneous rocks. The resemblance is indicative of de veloprnents akin to the Belmont and Montana-Tonopah, and possibly bet ter, for the reason that superincum bent pressure has been less on Mt. Ararat. The great ore body exist ing in the Mizpah-Extension the next and nearest mine-opening to that of the Boston-Tonopah, will ul timately be found to extend under and through the Ararat, and the general vein system to the north and east of Mt. Ot'die will be established nr, I..,..;.... ti.jin nant.1ir nrkrtll tinA tin nu in u n ciiu i ij v.. v south. Tke Boston-Tonopah is under the capable management of J. F.
