UCB Watt. The United Mates navy
at present consists of 177 vessels, of
which sixty-nine are iron clads, twenty
sailing snips, and twenty-emht tiun
ninety-nine steamers and Bailing
vessels, thirty-lour, carrying in the ag
gregate 382 guns, are on duty in various
fleets; forty-six are laid up; one is on the
lakes; six are unassigned, and the re
maining twelve are used as receiving
ships or on special duty. The monitors
and ironclads are laid up at league
island, Washin"ton and New Orleans.
The monitor Terrvr, however, is attached
to the north Atlantic fleet. The major
ity of the forty-six vessals laid np can be
prepared for sea at a small expense when
ever Congress shall authorize additional
seamen to man them. The thirty-four
vessels engaged in cruising are distrib
uted as follows: Nine in the Jt'acihc fleet,
eight in the Atlantic, seven ou the Eu
ropean, six in the North Atlantic, and
four in the South Atlantic.
New Teleobaph Line. Savs the
White PineA'wsof the lath inst: The
telegraph wire, to be used upon the line
from here to Pioche, arrived here yester
day. We are informed that all the post
holes have been dug, and that the posts
are being rapidly set along the line, ready
to receive the wire. It is expected the
line will be completed in about two weeks,
and ready to transmit messages.
