THE SEW DAILY APPEAL.
CARSON iti MOVWAV, NOV. 18. Local IV e w s Ornulif House. This large and attractive edifice stands now nearly finished at Carson and Second streets.' This point is highly favorable for the location of a hotel, being central and in tie immediate vicinity of the State House. It towers up in the centre of business, admirable imitation of granite. In fact, an intelli gent passer by a stranger of course pointing to the w.ills, inquired of the pre sent proprietor if that granite was pro cured here. He was answered affirm atively and wont on his way apparently satisfied. This deceptive preparation is the result of two coats of sand embedded in three of paint. The new bnilding ia entirely of wood, closely joined artd made one with the old brick structure which it looms considerably nbovp, by a connect ing roof and steps from house to house. The latter, however, is receiving a double roof in the place of toe old tin one, which will add to its height considerably. The roof of the new building is covered with choice shingles which are lavishly smear d with metallic lire proof paint, and surmounted by a heavy cornice supported upon ornamented brackets. The new building is three stories high and pre sents in front and rear the cheery aspect of bay windows. It is thoroughly lighl ed n all sides by numerous windows, j thfrtv of which let in lisdit from the I north. The l.idies entrance is at a re tired point on the northern side, the door leading iut) which is ornamented on either fide by glass work in ground with neat and appropriate floral figures. The i;Iass of thj tr.wsnm above announces in denply cut letters; "LAirEa Eotramce." Enter and pass through a door jeuing to your right. You are iu iu dining room measuring thirty by forty feet. In rear and in easy commu nication with the dining rooin is the kitchen a snug roomy apartment fur nished with a patent broiler, a 40-gallon iHiiler, an improved French range and all the other Litest appliances for cookery. Step in at tUc Unlit -J.Kir aual you find yourself in a capacious nail destined for the saioon, connected vrith which is an apartment twelve l-y twenty-four, to be fitted up as a reiuliiig roc m, and supplied with papers, periodicals, etc. 1 his much needed lruiovatiiw vould of itself be suf ficient to stamp, the Onusby as the model hotel structure f evaila. 'ha entire number of sleeping cham bers inclusive of twelve suites will reac seventy-five. The attic if emergency re quires can he readily fitted up and turn-d iuto three or fonr comfortable apartments for the acconimouauuu i servants, lin rooms have been so planned as to he as numerous as possible on the outside, so ttiat only two ar left on the inside and t lese uj to be lighted ty tiansoms'aad star lights. The suits of rooms on the East uud West ends will Tirobably be- the most desirable opes to rent in the State of Nevada. The windows are all9ubstan tially leaded so as to move at a touch, and remain nrmly stannnanr n tne motive force is withdrrrwn. In this respect as in all others none of the minutest details have been wverlouked which are calculat ed to promote the general comfort of hotel. We shall finish our description ef this hotel to-morrow. Accident.. Yesterday morning, the coldest one of the reason,; when fire, in its proper sphere, was the all engrossing consider ation, friend Brooks whom they charge with spelling his name in full in the middle pitched his mammoth stove miro- i.tle dieUU into the street, we saw it smoking there and asked George Gibson the wherefore, tie told us tnat rrea ts. and Fred F. had both been hugging the thing so closely that she grew in lignant and sought to revenge herselt against these oppress! we caresses by setting their roof on tire. Tney m turn naa retaliated und thrown the beater oat to freeze. A little more and Fred B'a interminable variety shop, embracing the miscel laneous world from number 19 gun wads Bi) to the latest German newspapers, would have undergone a physical me- tempsechosis not nr.like tfent which lately tfel the Mansard uoets ana otner com bustibles in the Boston Are. Fred F. things belong to Uncle Sam, who through him - send tidings to the folk of Carson and the neighboring sage brush tidings which may be en the one hand, "grand, gloomy and peculiar " or on the other iilieulous, gay and insignificant. How much of this olla-podrida of Chinese, English, Canadian, Doteh, etc., ad in finitum would haw gone "where the "woodbine twiueth ". had. not the good servant bat bad master been nipped in the bad, must ever remain to the world an untold, sealed tnystety. They are all scholars that! bant on Sunday, and they say that rt means rtcrtatkm. ' This term js applied to the latest and Tary 'taking, edition of rouge tt natr. We plead ignorance as to the etymology of the word after it leaves its classic pre cincts. Why this game is named for the Grecian goddess we cannot say.', We may be allowed to surmise, however, and we do so after this wise. Diana of old and her modern namesake are both pro digal of extremity charms, but preserve Wie mystic oeauties of tneir more hidden nature, scrupulously invisible except to be the view of those ' on the inside.'' lloth Dianas are 'on the hunt." The goddess and her attendants are pictared bathing by day, shielded from the gaze of profane eyes by fcaiowy boughs, in water; the boss and managers of the game, are to seen as a general rule at night, in places of public reran, performing their abrr tions in gin. These fellows can make as sweet music by gingling four bit piects together, as the hunter goddess ever dared Toloot from her silver horn. They ore both ' sprtin ' institotiens. One Acteon, according to the Grecian myth, falling a prey, to too prying a curiosity and to an inordinate longing to see the sights ' offered by godly nakedness, was transformed into a stag and lacerated by dogs. When the modern Diana goes to bath, many peep in, stare at the naked ' tiger ' aro changed into asses and bitten by sharps. " Scene iu the Printing Office, Local prepares an article and is about to hang it on the hook. He is not alto gether persuaded, however, as to the full propriety of printing the quotation, Where the woodbine twineth." He desires to be oennnned an his opinion of the justness and appropriateness of these poetical words, and ajiplies for counsel to one of the printers, who not only pos sesses gmct experience as a practioal Srinter, but has. also handled the quill imself: Lwj!. Jlr. J-hns-n. I know that you are a gentleman of taste, and I want to ask you for your judgment as to whether the mural sense of the Carson people could stand an allusion to " Where the woodbine twrneth." Priritrr (modestly). Ah ! Y'ou strike me where I am weakest. But iu my opinion you should not hesitate to make use of that beautiful reference to the woodliine, it you find it ormuneiit.il, in any place. Such expressions often be come stale and tiresome with me. but this one has not yet begun to cloy on my ear , Hr. J.'s wit is vigorous and not to le withstood; therefore, " let it twine.
