Impobtabt Konci. A meeting of the
Stockholders of the Nevada Agricultural,
Mining and Mechanical Society will bo
held this evening at 7 i o'clock at the
District Court lloom, for the purpose of
electing seven Trustees, to serve for one
year, and for the transaction of such
further business as will be conducive to
the best interests of the Society. A
majority of the stock issued must be
represented at this meeting to vote on
any and all questions. We trust there
will be a full attendance.
The Diadlt Ttphoid is carrying off
its victims by the dozen, and a strong
feeling of alarm is becoming prevalent.
People long with painful eagerness for a
change in the weather which shall purify
the disease-laden atmosphere. Almost
every one complains of indisposition,
and the number of people " a little under
the weather " is equal to a full third of
the population. The mortality during
the present month has been frightful,
and wholly out of proportion to the size
of the city. Virginia Chronicle.
Th State Prison Experts. Messrs.
Eldridge and Hanford. the experts ap
pointed by tho Prison Board to examine
into tho accounts of P. C. Hyman,
Warden of the Prison, are peforming
the duty assigned to them. It will
probably be two or three weeks before
tbey will bo prepared to make any kind
of a statement to the Board.
Opining Day. The ladies of Carson
will notice that this is the opening day
for tho exhibition of millinery and
dresses at Mrs. Cunningham's fashion
store in Corbett Block. The latest
styles of dresses from San Francisoo
and the East can there be seen.
Mrs. Shiteb s dry goods establish
ment is doing a thriving business, and
has become one of the permanent stores
of Carson City. Her agent is going for
new stock of goods in a few days.
The Fourth of July mine ill Eureka is
owned principally in Carson by Judge
Hilly er, Abe I)j;esbncli, Judge Whitman,
Buck Davis, John Neil, Mr. Gardner and
others. Of this mine the Eureka Sen
tinel says : " It has for some time been
showing exceedingly well, but not until
Tuesday was the real narrow of the bo
nanza reached. Contractor Thomas, we
learn, has by bis welt directed efforts
placed the mine in an enviabe rank as
one of the most promising in the whole
district. A small streak of heavy black
metal came in at tho bottom of tho in
cline which has increased in width to
twelve inches. The black metal at all
points on Prospect mountain is very
rich, going high np into the hundreds
per ton, and the present indications are
that the Fourth of July mine has an
abundant supply of it."
Sam. C. Dessox, a former resident of
Carson City and District Attorney for
Ormsby county, is doubtless elected
Judgo of the Sixth Judicial District of
California; said district being composed
of Sacramento and Yolo counties. The
Sacramento Record-Union says the indi
cations are that he is elected by 800 plu
rality, and probably 2,000 majority over
both his opponents. His many friends
here will rejoice at this good news. Mr.
Denson is a good lawyer and will make
a good Jndge.
Mayo, the colored appropriator of
others goods that is the negro thief
will have an examination on the charge
of grand larceny to-day. Dr. Waters
has recognized among the things found
in his room at least eighty dollars worth ;
the cost was a much larger sum. There
are bushels of other things among the
plunder, for which there are as yet no
claimants.
