Suffered Twenty Years Before Finding the Sight Medicine CARSON CITY, NEV. t $ $ MM ALL HE EARNS GOES INTO LIBERTY BONDS Ry Cnited Press LOS AXGELES, Oct. 14. His en tire fortune having been swept away in the Mexican revolution of 1914, General Mariano Ruiz, aged 70, is earning $1 a day and his room as night bell-hop in a modest east-side hotel. The former general who once led thousands of troops in military activi ties below the Rio Grande, now leads guests to their respective rooms. And despite his meager pay he is buying a Liberty Bond of the fourth issue and has induced forty of his friends to do the same. The aged general started his military carer as a sergeant, having graduated from the military school at Chapultepec. He soon after was made lieutenant, and within a few years was appointed brig adier general. In 1905 he became gov ernor of the state of Tepee and was recognized as one of the right-hand men of Diaz. The revolution in 1914 forced him to leave the country. British Army Officers Will Talk to People of Carson City Is Evening Camouflage )sa fca s Camouflage is a means of deceit. Though the new German Chancel lor's speech indicates that a revolution lias occurred, yet the German Emper or's authority seems to be maintained. Peace overtures, no matter what terms are suggested, the Kaiser re maining on the throne, are generally taken as camouflage. If the American People can be led to believe that the Fourth Liberty Loan is unnecessary, the Loai may fail, our troops be discouraged, our allies des pair, and the Huns thus obtain time to devise new .schemes of wholesale mur der and rapine new agencies to throw the world back into savagery. Buy Bonds. Let nothing which the enemy suggests prevent our supporting our government with all our strength all our means. Buy Bonds. None of us want a tem porary peace which the Junkers can break whenever they please. Buy Bonds. If real peace be at hand, then this investment, already the best in the world, will at once yield a rich return ; for our bonds will reach the highest premium ever known. Above All, we must support cur leaders. Wilson, George and Clemenceau will deal with the Armistice proposal. Our work is to support them. Just now we can- best support them by buying bonds. ED. J. WALSH. A Liberty Loan party, consisting of Mrs. R. N. Paulson of the British re cruiting station of San Francisco; Cap tain F. L. Goord, who has been in charge of the station in the city for the past year, and who is about to return to England to take up active service; Lieutenant James Dagger of the Brit ish army, who has also been engaged in recruiting work on the coast ; and last, but not least, Miss Jean Hague. who needs no introduction to Nevada people, arrived fom San Francisco late yesterday afternoon, and proceeded to Merrimac. where all remained as guests for the night of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hague. The party left for Reno this morning, but will return to Carson this afternoon. Before the party left members of the Woman's County Liberty Loan com mittee made arrangements whereby Lieutenant Dagger and Captain Goord will speak at a Liberty Loan meeting to be held this evening, commencing at 8 o'clock, in the Circe building, where seating accommodations have been .pro vided. The meeting in a sense will be in formal and a sort of "jumped up" af fair, as no time was permitted to get it up on an elaborate scale, but it prom ises to be a momentous and interest ing occasion. Governor Boyle will preside. Captain Goord has been heard here before and won his audience by his re cital of incidents of the war. It will be remembered the captain was one of the victims of a German gas attack on the west front eighteen months ago, and when he was sent to this country for recuperation he was practically a physical wreck, but Pacific coast cli mate has made a new man of him. He will speak tonight and will have a lot to tell of present German propoganda Lieutenant Dagger has seen active service, and, being a forcible talker will tell a story that will appeal to all and show up tlie Hun in some new- phases. The lieutenant is now prepar ing for a tour of the country in the in terest of Red Cross work and this will be the only opportunity of hearing him. The meeting will be called at 8 o'clock, promptly' and it is desired that evervbodv be on time. Plenty of chairs will be provided. RENO HAS SITUATION WELL UNDER CONTROL It was stated in Reno Saturday that the so-called epidemic of Spanish in fluenza was well under control and there is now but little fear of its spread. There are only a few cases in the city and they are of a light order, many claiming that they are just ordinary cases ot grip. .o ieatns, so tar as known, have occurred since Thursday and in all there have only been two. Friday afternoon in this city, follow ing the report that several cases existed in White Pine mining camps, the State Board of Health called a meeting and issued the following order: -wnereas, ..it is known that epi demic influenza exists in the village of Cobre, Nev.. and In speaking of the marvelous way in which Tanlac has relieved him of a long standing case of rheumati-sm, B. E. Burton, head salesman in the wholesale fruit and vegetable department at Lut- ev Bros.. Butte. Mont., living at 662 South Montana stret, recently said "It is simply astonishing that just a few bottles of Tanlac should fix mc up in almost no time, after I had spent almost every dollar I earned in the last twenty years trying to get relief from that awful rheumatism." Before coming to Butte Mr. Bur ton lived for ten years in Spokane, Wash., where he was salesman for the Imperial Trading company of that cit . "I tell you what," he continued. "I have gone thrdiiglTall stages of rheu matism, and tl- agonies I have had to endure simply cannot be described. The trouble first came on me about twenty years ago. My shoulders, knees and ankles gave me the most worry and ached so at times that I hardly had any use for myself. Alout three years ago it got so bad that I was laid up in bed for six long months, and when I got up again I had to go about on crutches for three months, and till recently I never did get it out of my system, although I spent hundreds of dollars in trying to get straightened out. I went to Hot Springs, Ark., but without result and then I tried the mud baths nearer home. but I got no benefit from that treatment either. A little while ago I felt il com ing on pretty bad again. My appetite left me, nothing tasted right, I was con stipated and suffered from awful head aches every few days. The pain in my shoulders and knees was so agonizing that I could hardly sleep and I would wake up six or seven times during the night racked with pain. Why, at the time I started taking Tanlac I couldn't raise my arms as high as my shoulders to save my life and was unable to put on my coat without somelody helping me, and mv knees were so stiff and hurt so bad I could hardlv walk. After reading so much about Tan lac I decided to try it and I hadn't finished my first 1ottle before the stiff ness began to leave my joints, and now I never suffer a bit of pain or incon venience. Aly second bottle gave me a whacking big appetite, that consti pation is relieved and I never have a headache. I sleep like a log all night. and am lucky if I wake up in time for breakfast before going to work. I ccr tainly am glad to endorse Tanlac and only hope my experience with this wonderful medicine will help someone else who may. be going through what I did. Tanlac is sold in Carson City Charles L. Kitzmever. Drastic Clause of Initiative Law b CAN I BE CURED?" Most people are of the opinion that if the state is voted "dry" at the Novemler election it means only the closing of the saloons and that they can take their little old jug to the grocery and have it filled at their pleasure. For the benefit of those who are laboring under this delusion their attention is called to section 7 of the initiative petition to lie voted on, which reads as follows : Sec. 7. It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or have FOR PERSONAL USE or otherwise, or to use, or permit another to have, keep or use, intoxicating liquors at any restaurant, store, office build ing, club, place where soft drinks are sold (except a drug store may have and sell alcohol and wine as provided by sections four and twenty four), fruit stand, newsstand, nxmi or place where bowling alleys, bil liard or pool tables are maintained, livery stables, public buildings, park, road, street or alley. It shall be unlawful for any person to give or furnish to another intoxicating liquors. Anyone violating this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars, nor more than one thousand dollars, and be imprisoned in the county jail not less than two nor more than twelve months; provided that no common carrier, for hire, nor any other person, for hire or w ithout hire, shall brijig or carry into this state, or carry from one place to another within tne state, intoxicating liquors for another, even when intended for personal use; except a com mon carrier may, for hire, carry pure grain alcohol and wine, and such preparations as may be sold by druggists for the special purposes and in the manner as set forth in sections four and twenty-four; and provided further, however, that in case of search and seizure, the finding of any liquors shall be prima facia evidence that the same are being kept and stored for unlawful purposes. DOES NEVADA NEED LAWS LIKE THIS? Advt. MttttttMMttttttttMt Governor Boyle Suggests Government Take Over Tonopah and Tidewater Realizing the advantages that accrue from the operation of the Tonopah and Tidewater railway, between Beatty and Las Vegas, and the loss that will be sustained by suspension and tearing up of its tracks, Senators Pittman ar.d Henderson siduouslv Washington to have the road operated ) operated unprofitably and finally, after as a government project if the present erly and southerly route with the country south of us. This road was built at a time when mining prospects seemed to warrant its construction. It is true that it has never been a profit able investment. In this respect, how ever, it is like the Carson and Colorado. have been laboring as- ' now llle Nevada and California ot the with the departments at S Southern Pacific lines, which for years How often have you heard that sad cry from the victims of disease. Per haps the disorder has gone too far for help, but oftener it is just in its first stages and the pains and aches are only natures first cries for help. Do not despair. Find out the cause and give nature all the help you caj and she will repay you with health. Look af ter the kidneys. The kidneys are the most overworked organs of the human body, and when they fail in their work of filtering and throwing off the poison owners cannot go on with its operation. The efforts of Governor Boyle have also been enlisted in the matter, and today at the suggestion of Nevada's senators, he wired the following to William G. McAdoo, government direc tor of railroads : "Carson. Nev., Oct. 14, 1918. "Hon. William G. McAdoo, Director General of Railways, Washington. D. C. "Relative to the petition of the Las Vegas and Tonopah railway with the Railroad commission of this state, ask ing annulment of rates and schedules preparatory to the tearing up of their line from Beatty to Las Vegas, Nev., the allegation is made that shop facili ties at Las Vegas are no longer accord ed and that rerouting of freights be tween Southern California points and Tidewater on order of railroad admin istration has destroyed business of the applicant. I very respectfully call your attention to certain regrettable feat ures connected with the decision of this road to remove its rails here. It is the only direct connecting link between Northern and Southern Nevada and constitutes what we believe to be a por tion of a very feasible and useful north- ow .1.. : .TT, m. , . C, in com mon with all the other Red Cross chapters throughout the country, will hold , its annual meeting. Reports of the. year s work will be given by the making development of its section pos sible, became one of the most profitable and useful lines in the state. "The Las Vegas and Tonopah passes through a somewhat barren country, flanked by numerous ranges which have produced minerals and which after in tensive prospecting will doubtless bring forth mines ultimately. "Viewing this proposition in its broaftlest sense the public interest might, in my judgment, be well served by the taking over by your organiza tion of this road as one of the feeders of the lines within the systems to the north and south. The development of the arid and sparsely settled inter mountain country is retarded every where by lack of transportation facil ities.
