THE DAILY APPEAL, CARSON CITY, NEVADA, JUNE 26, 1906.
A PROTEST AGAINST WHOLESALE
LOCATIONS
A correspondent writes to The Ap
peal suggesting changes in the state
mining laws.
The communication is as follows:
"One of the weak spots in the min
ing laws cf the state, in my opinion is,
that one prospector can stake any
number of claims in a district, in fact,
can stake a whole district, and tie V.
tip for 90 days.
"To prevent this wholesae staking
ty one individual and at the same
time increase the states revenue
without making a hardship on the
prospector, should be the aim of
those state officials who have a
chance to present their views to the
legislature.
"Were the state to license pros
pectors, as is done in British Colum
bia, wholesale staking would be pre
vented and the state's revenue would
be increased without making any
harehip on prospectors,
ship on prospectors.
"The fee fora prospector's license,
would not be higher than $5, and all
licenses would expire on a fixed date,
say June 30th of each year. No lo
cation of mining ground to be valid,
unless the locator holds a prospectors
license, and no claim to be stated in
the name of a person who is not
the holder of such a license. No
license bolder to be allowed to lo
cate more than three cairns in any
one mining district for himself, (or
herself) and the same number as an
agent for other persons holding lic
ence (one for each person).
