Our prospects are excelled nowhere. The suggested motto of ‘Make Haste Slowly” for the council cham ber might be fittingly supplemented with “Let the Grass Grow.” One goes with the other, and both are work ing bully. And from the action of the big cat tlemen dominating the oenver as semblage yesterday, upholding the Pinchot policies and declaring for land grabbing, it looks much as if the friends of the late forester had in over aealous concern let some cat out of the bag. The state assessors very properly turned down, according to report, a Job of the telegraph and telephone companies of the state to have a uni form low rate adopted for all over the state. Thus the telephone and telegraph companies in the towns would have paid the minimum tax Justly put on the wire mileage of the telegraph and telephone com panies in the deserts, and the as sessors been cut out of opportunity to make the companies pay the max imum for the maximum business and the minimum expenses of conduct in cities and towns. The assessors saw through the job and the majority had the nerve and honesty to turn it down Not in a half decade has .a opened with the business outlook so generally auspicious as the year 1910. says Dun's. In January. 1907 there was a tremendous volume of transactions, but already the clouds of impending disaster could be seen on the horiion. In January. 1908. the crash had arrived, and the busi ness world was counting the heavy losses In January, 1909. confidence nad been in part repaired, but the1 progress toward recovery was very slow. But in January 1910, the vol ume of transactions is as large as in 1907. with confidence supreme, and bo impending disasters casting their shadows before. Some of the per plexing issues which contributed to the crisis of 1907 still remain un solved. while the question of high prices has become more acute, but | It would seem as if business confi dence were not going to permit these things to interfere with the further progress of industry and commerce.! On absolute merit of resources.: this camp is assured of a population of from 3#.000 to 50.006 people There is no guess work about the smaller figure. No less population can handle the work that we will j have to turn out within the next Are, yean. The chances are altogether favorable tor the higher number within thnt time, Tou will hare hard work finding anotner locality in the country able to show you as •ra and sure a foundation for large growth in permanent population.' which will be here and be busy every day for a longer period than any of us on the ground today will live to see the end of. Nor will there be found anywhere in the country a more liberal plan for the benefit of those who wish to invest and build up with the district than is that af forded by the Ely Securities Co., which puts property within the reach of every man in the camp It fits au purses. None are so smalt that they cannot take advantage, and you will make a realty or a house invest ment that rests on the rock of devel oped resources, the only absolutely sound and safe foundation for in MINES AND MINING NEWS NOTES OF WEEK IN THE| SMELTER TOWN iFrom Copper Ore.)
