THE WHITE PINE NEWS , Published by the WHITE PINE NEWS PUBLISHING COMPANY. Offices: East Ely and Ely. Nevada. Entered as second-lass matter November 24. 1908. at the postofflce at East Ely, Nevada, under the act of congress of March 3, 1879. The American Smelting 4: Refin ing, with 35 or more plants, failed to stifle th«* development of smelting enterprises in any given locality where the conditions were favorable for smelting. The United Slates Smelting developed as a powerful riTai, and more recently the Inter national Smelting came into being. Amalgamated did not prevent Butte from enjoying it* greatest boom in 1906-7, a few years after Amal gamated had made a sweeping clean up In the camp. The Steel Trust has not made a one-man business of steel production. On the other hand, it has strengthened independent com petition by strengthening the mar ket* for steel and making a fair price for both consumer and pro ducer. That is what the copper com bine will do, with result, we believe, of doubling the consump'ion of cop per within six months after the com bine is perfected and doubling it again every year thereafter for many years to come. The consumer wants to use copper In a great many ways that he cannot use it, for the reason that he cannot tell what his copper is going to cost him at his time of ! need, a year or two ahead. Assured of copper at a reasonable figure for a term of years, the contracting builders will put hundreds of mil lions of pounds in their specifics- j tions that they dare not touch under existing conditions. AH of which will stimulate copper mining and inter e*t In coppers. The Independent producers will enlarge their holdings,, as will also the combine. The sur plus metal will melt away quickly and the copper properties of the world be put to utmost effort to keep pace with demand. In such a district as this, activity will at no time Black. The combine will never have all the say. The camp Is going to keep on with the development of new ground and the gathering of new interests for many years to come, for the simple reason that there is an amount of work to be done here In the exploitation of resources that cannot be accomplished in less than many yeara, If in a life span. The Immensity of our resources and the fact that values can be obtained from thorn at lower cost than else where In the country, by reason of rare combination of contents, topo graphical features and other valu able aids seldom found centered In a single locality, makes it certain we are going to go to the top limit In work and development, combina tion or no combinations. In one column the Excuse laments that by reason of reported com MINESANDMINING THE DISTRICT The camp has gone Jarbridge mad. Ererybody is talking of the new camp and of the certainty of a boom in the spring Nevada has not enjoyed a gold boom since the I halycon days of Goldfield in the fall of 1906 and the dawn of 1907, and ! the outside world seems to be ripe j for a new one. Enterprising mining men and ' brokers of the district are going to be among the first on the ground of the new boom camp, and as a fore-| runner of what Ely district is going I to do there has been incorporated Uhe Jarbridge Investment Company, inotice of which was printed in the : News of yesterday. Prominent among •the incorporators are M. E. E. Wad ! leigh a well know n engineer, w hose experience in the west includes Crip ple Creek. Goldfield. Manhattan, Fairview, Rawhide and all the latter day mining camps; Messrs. Herrick and Kerin and many others. The purpose of tL* company is to1 sell shares in their enterprise, and the proposition has already found many subscribers. The money paid for the shares will be returned to the holders before any dividends can be declared. Messrs. Herrick and Wad leigh will open offices in Twin Falls, Idaho, and possibly later, in Jar bridge. They, representing the com pany will take options on properties, mining and realty, and launch into all sorts of enterprises which will produce the money. Both gentle men have been in the foremost ranks of boom camps before and know Just what to do, and where the mon ey is to be had in a place like Jar bridge. The company has all the elements 1 of success at the start, and being among the first on the ground and thoroughly equipped for the rush, it looks reasonably certain that they will have their pick among the "good things,” and come off with flying colors. This camp has been through a boom herself, and it Is most natural to see her sons In a rush. But it is not going to be alone in the rush. From the publicity which has been given to the new camp it is evident that they are going in from Ftah, from Idano, Oregon, Cali fornia and the far east, all of which goes to show the urgency of the local hustlers getting there and getting there among the first. Among the shareholders of the I Jarbridge Investment company are' some very prominent men of the district, who are subscribing from $100 to $r>00 for a "flyer,” and others who cannot afford to make the trip are willing to place their interests in the hands of the gentlemen at the head of the company, with the knowledge that they will get a good run for their money. bines the ramp is speeding on its way to the demnition bow-wows, while in the next it advocates the in vestment of money in Kly homes as the very best use that may be made of the circulating medium. Aside from the inconsistency, which we must attribute to the mixing of Excuse pills, both conclusions are i wrong. The star irresponsible of the staff of the lame, halt and blind must have got into its editor’s chair. 1 "JJoes your friend still advocate socialism so strongly?” “No, he has inherited money!”— I New York Evening Telegram. Wilmot, a Columbia grad uate and for some years in charge of the Lewisohn minmg interests in Butte, and later in British Colum bia, but more recenCy with head quarters in Salt l*ake as a consult ing engineer, arrived last evening to take over the management of Ely Central. Mr. Wilmot came here last week to spend a few days looking ov»r the property and then returned to Salt Lake. His visit resulted in h s ac ceptance of an offer from thf Ely Central to take the management of the property. In view of his past re lations with the Lewisohn interests, his identfleation with Ely Central at this time Is considered by sone to have particular significance. Ely Central was for a long time consid ered to be under the eye of the Lew isohns in a very prominent way. Mr. Wilmot takes charge of the property at a very interesting stage, very important developments one way or the other being consiJered close at hand. He was accompinled in last evening by his brother, P. N. Wilmot, a prominent business man of Redlands, Cal., who will remain several days looking over the district in a general way.
