MARKETS, MINING AND METALS SLUMP LINE Yesterday sent a chill along the spine of the hope that had sprung into some semblance of bloom with regard to the kinks being all out of i the market, the see-sawing season i closed and the era of advance at hand. For they were see-sawing again yesterday and they also slip ped to lower levels in the now fa miliar way. The quarters in which the downward motion was most ap parent were the same which have marked the beginning of every fresh slump during the last two months’ slumpfest. Maybe the short hours of trading will head the decline off today, but It is more likely to be em phasized. Kvidently the scenery is not as near set for the big play as had been thought. E. W. HLL8E & CO. LETTER. Increased advances in the market 1 yesterday threw in additional sun- ] shine and there was renewed confi-I dence on all sides. Almost all along i the line there was a gain. There was much to gloat over yesterday in that the market has now failed to pass a clay without at least some gain, bear ing out the theory which we have ad vanced for some time—that all of the Issues are ready to and will assume higher levels. The big ones are now leading the procession and the little ones can not refrain from following suit, slow but sure. The Supreme court ruling In the tobacco and oil cases will have an important bearing in the time which will be consumed before the market will have entirely recovered but there is absolutely nothing to fear in the present con dition of the various stocks as there will be no damaging effects following the recent shaking out and reaction. The market is in a healthy condition and more than ready to dispell the slump. Our daily stock quotations follow: NEW YORK AND BOSTON STOCKS. Open. Close. Amalgamated . . . 77.75 77.00 Am.
