MARKETS, MINING AND METALS MARKET TAKES TO MORE SEDATE ADVANCE GAIT The market took it easier yester day. Advances were slowed down to an orderly gait, which looks like promising medicine for the next sev eral days. Some little profit taking was in evidence, indicating that there were those for whom the advance came a little sooner than had been figured. The general tendency was upward and at the dose it looked as if this would again be in full force: today. The situation is commented upon in the east as very satisfactory. In fact it is said there would be noth ing left to desire if the growing labor trouble cloud might be lifted from the horizon. What with the trouble in Philadelphia and the inclination of a very large majority of the railroad men to go on strike, a considerable blotch has been made on otherwise fair prospects for excellent sailing. However, the market leaders are not yet ready to take this phase of the situation seriously. The present ad vance Is desired to go considerably further before another decline Is en tertained, and it looks as If the or ganization has been brought about to that end in a way that precludes dan ger of puncture until the anticipated profits have been realized. Meantime the Kly list Is an excel lent buy. Nevada Con. Is holding ahead with the advance program and Giroux looks good to also figure prominently In this respect very soon. Boston Kly is making fine headway at the mine and the month is very likely to bring developments there that will warrant the stock going higher than on any previous advance. Kly Central is overcoming Its soft ground difficulties and should soon be getting down to its ore, the opening of which is likely to mean a good deal to the stock. Kly Con. is getting results that entitle It to a higher price. Centennial continues to look good, and If the Newhouse in spection of this property Is satisfac tory to the extent of getting the In creased support that Mr. Newhouse has signified Intention of giving, the stock should make very material gain, and that quickly. Ore Is run ning heavy from Copper Flat to con centrator, where they are getting away with all that comes along, and the month’s record on copper pro duction now seems sure of making to the highest figures in the history of the camp. The market opened up with the firm ness of the past week but tow'ard the close It registered some declines of a minor nature. While yesterday's slight lapse can not be attributed to any particular cause It Is generally taken as being due to the covering of a few of the remaining bear shorts. There was no visible weakness any where in the market and normal con ditions favorable toward Improve ment should continue to prevail Ne vada Con. is generally conceded to bein line for continued advances and it would not be at all surprising to see it reach the $.‘10.00 mark before May. ELY INVESTMENT COMPANY ELY, NEVADA PLEASED WITH MASON VALLEY ARRANGEMENTS - SALT LAKE, March 9.—Western stockholders of the Mason Valley Copper company are well pleased with the selection of Jules Lebarthe as general manager of the company. His wide experience and ability guarantee to everyone that the mine and smelter end of the proposition will meet with expectation in every j regard. George E. Gunn is now mak- j ing an inspection of the mine at Ma-' son. It is understood that negotia tions are being carried forward be tween the Mason Valley and Nevada Douglas companies which contem plate the completion of an ore con tract for close to 500 tons daily of Nevada-Douglas ore. These two mines usually are considered about the only developed meritorious prop ositions In the Mason district, but there are the McConnell, Malachite, Western Nevada, Yerington Consol idated, Yerington Copper and other groups with demonstrated tonnages of straight smelting ore available, while the limestone with its concen trating ores will provide no mean tonnage for the smelter when in shape for operation. c;ooi> INJURY FOR COPPER. February Consumption Shows In crease Over January. NEW YORK, March 9.—The large copper producers and selling agencies report an improvement In the copper market for a fairly large tonnage. Buying has also been better, and j prices show a shade advance In con- i sequence. The consumption of coppe r for1 February shows a decided increase1 over January and producers are hope ful that before the close of the year consumption wiir be close to maxi mum production of the producing mines. One large consumer purchased 2, 000,000 pounds of copper for April delivery on a basis of 13% cents a| pound. The concensus of opinion in j copper trade circles is that March will develop a good buying movement They are also hopeful that the sharp reduction in stocks in the current month will give strength to prices. The Copper Producer's figures, to i be publiched March 10, are expected to show that stocks on hand in this j country are in the neighborhood of 70,000,000 pounds.
