MARKETS, MINING AND METALS MARKET HAS BETTER LOOK -MANY GAINS In the general list there was im provement pretty near all along the line yesterday. It was striking at no point, but it was there and its tone was good. They all look good for purchase today, if you have the cash, but otherwise no. Too much is going on under the surface to permit of any certain analysis of the situa tion. Therefore it is unpropltious margin time, but fine cash Invest ment opportunity for the acquire ment of stocks. Those that failed to advance yes terday and took the opposite turn were comparatively few. A pro nounced performer among those that continued the downward movement, however, was Ely Central. It Is known that at the mine they are get ting close to their ore in the recover ed shaft and it is possible that the stock is being left to take care of it self and perhaps encouraged to low er figures until the ore is reached, when there Is certain to be a strong upward movement. Ely Central stock taken on at present prices cer tainly looks good for large profit at no distant date. The Salt Lake list yesterday failed to respond to the New York im provement, continuing Its decline. There was but one bright exception to this rule, Ely Centennial making advance and showing splendid strength. It is safe to say that this stock will move steadily to higher figures after the demonstration It has made during the last few days during which everything else has been falling. Ely Centennial has ac acquired powerful backing in the | market, beside which the property is making good. E. \V. HI'I.SE * CO. LETTER. The market again appeared to be tottering on an uncertainty yester day, as if prepared to go either up or down with but the least provoca tion and there was little of a redeem ing feature. In strong contrast to the actions of early last week when the larger ones stood dormant and smaller ones made rises, the higger ones have been recording some gains or at least holding their own during the past few days while the smaller ones have been acting extremely un der the weather. Ely Central sought the lowest level of many a day and I closed as low as a dollar bid. That ! these conditions must soon come to an end, however, is the advanced opinion on all other markets and from our eastern correspondents. While we dislike to reiterate this oft tlme repeated statement, the fact re STOCKS ARE:ALWAYS MOVING We have every move. The beat facilities for executing orders In Ely. E. W. HULSE & CO. ELY INVESTMENT COMPANY ELY, NEVADA MINES TET TO BE MADE HERE The Salt Lake Tribune says: it is not alone to the great mon zonlte mineral belt of Ely that oper ators are forced to ■xook for mineral results, but to the enormous ledges cutting the district Is due expecta tions which will make or many a present-day prospect a big producer of the future. This point was em phasized on Tuesday by Fred C. Dern, who recently made his first visit to the Ely diggings. Mr. Dern said yesterday that the property on which this theory is being success fully put to the test is the Ely Cen tennial, and ultimate success In a big way for the Ely Centennial means the same for the McDonald Ely and the Ely Calumet groups, for across each of these the big ledge extends from which the Centennial expects its best returns. “I believe," said Mr. Dern, "that the Ely Centennial is going to make one of the big producers of the dis trict. Everything is most favorable for this result, and there Is positive ly every reason for the McDonald Ely and Ely Calumet meeting with the same success, for they lie on each side of the Centennial and both have! the same ledge. Beyond the main I ledge are several parallel ledges, any one of which are worthy of deep investigation, and while sinking will be started as soon as the tunnel finds the main vein, these parallel ledges will be opened by a continuation of the tunnel.” .Mr. Dorn returned with some mag nificent samples of ore from the Giroux, Ely Consolidated and other properties, and believes that Ely will continue to hold its prestige for I many years to come. -| Centennial.30 .30 Bin. Cable advices received from Pope Y eat man, consulting engineer, who is now at the mines of the Hraden Copper Co., are very encouraging, says a news bulletin issued by Thompson, Towle & Co. He estimates that there are 7,000,000 tons of ore developed in the No. 2 and No. 3 Fortuna tunnels., This figure does not include any ore lying below the No. 3 Fortuna al though in the No. 4 tunnel, situated 350 feet below the No. 3, a crosscut has passed through 85 feet of ore averaging 3 per cent copper.
