Harry Randall, who recently re signed as foreman of the McGill & Adams ranch, left yesterday for Sandy, Utah, where he has purchased a ranch and with his family will make his home. He has been suc ceeded as foreman of the McGill & Adams ranch by his brother, Ernest Randall, formerly purchasing agent of the Colorado & Utah Cattle Co. LEASES RANCH. Stephen Williams, well known cat tleman of White river valley, has leased his ranch to Mr. Nyberg, of Currant Creek, his son-in-law and well known in this city as a hustling young cattleman. Meyers has returned to East Ely from Pocatello, Idaho, where he accompanied his wife and daughters. He reports that Mrs. Meyers has been greatly benefited by the change. train helps. A general meeting of Lawton Camp No. 5, Spanish War Veterans, of Ely. will be held at 8 o’clock Thursday night at the city hall for the purpose of arranging a joint cele bration of Memorial Day. The call issues from a special committee of the Veterans, composed of S. W. Bel ford, G. A. McElroy and A. A. Mar shall, and an Invitation is extended to all lodges and other organizations of the district and the school dis tricts of the entire county to have representatives in attendance. The program for the observance of the day and the appointment of various committees will be made at the meet ing. Candidates for the East Ely team of the ball league, divided into two nines, will play a practice game at 2 p. m. on the home grounds. Cap tain Walts has requested all candi dates to be on hand. The Ely team will cross bats with the county high school twirlers in a practice game on the Chainman mlllslte at 2. The stu dents are showing up well in their practice games and the members of the league team will have to play fast ball. The high school boys are get ting into form to uphold their school in contests with the Elko, Eureka and Winnemucea high schools at Elko about June 1. Blair of the smelter shops was a visitor at the East Ely shops yesterday. Superintendent T. J. Duddleson re tuned on No. 4 last night from a short inspection trip to Cobre. Engineer Drysdale, who has been off having some dental work done, has resumed his duties in the main line freight. Engine No. 5, which has been leas ed to the omelting Co. for the past hve months, was brought back to East Ely yesterday and will go in the shops for a general overhauling. It happened that the main line freight was side tracked there, so Engine No. 11 took the train into Cobre on time. NOTES OF SOCIETY. Mrs. Putnam's Grand Opera class enjoyed Parsifal Saturday. Mrs. Nevin, Mrs. Annan and Mrs. Belford assisted. • • • Several dinner parties were held at the Steptoe hotel last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Lloys entertained Mr. and Mrs. Neil McGill; Dr. and Mrs. E. L. R. Wallace entertained a party of seven; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Ferguson entertained among the others. • • • The literary and musical afternoon given by Mrs. C. S. Chandler and Mrs. S. W. Belford was a decided success and novelty. About fifty ladles at tended. Mrs. James B. Belford’s pa triotic talk was much enjoyed. Mrs. Nevin, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Putnam, Mrs. McGill, Mrs. Allward, Mrs. Mil liard and Mrs. Woods rendered the ! afternoon perfect from a musical 'standpoint. Delicious refreshments were served. • • • Mrs. P. J. Goumond, who leaves to morrow morning for Omaha to visit relatives, was tendered a farewell surprise party by a large number of friends last night at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. McKay, where Mrs. Goumond was presented with a handsome cut glass cream and sugar set by her friends. Mrs. Goumond will remain about two months in Omaha, and will then go to Califor nia, where she will make her home. Mr. Goumond will remain In Ely dur ing her visit east. • • • Mrs. A. J. Pesler entertained at a bridge luncheon on Thursday in honor of Mrs. Weber. Her table was in the form of a T, covers being laid for 20. Sweet peas were the dcorations and tne dainty lavender and pink of the spring flowers were carried out in every appointment. The following ladles were present: Mesdames Weber, Putnam, Bishop, Hoag, Holm quist. Holmell, Chandler, Clark, Olockner, Belford, Lloyd, Boreman, Cannon. Castle, Culbertson, Byrne, Stevens, Lindsay, Hall, Coleman and Weber. The prizes, cut glass nappies, went to Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Castle, Mrs. Cannon, Mrs. Belford and Mrs. Clark. Junior Teams In Warm Game Yesterday The East Ely Juniors played ball with the McGill Juniors on the Mc Gill grounds yesterday and Inciden tally walloped the smelter lads. In consequence of which the East Ely boys came home with banners flying and very largely satisfied with the world. The East Ely line-up was as follower Joe Annlg, catch; Pearl Decker, pitch; Geo. Heartwell, first base; Jim Cryst, second base; Warren Larsen, third base; Verle Hansen, short stop; Jack Helford, right field. The result of the game was 2 to 0 In favor of East Ely, after a well-! played game which began at 12:30. | Although two men shy, the East Ely players explained last night, they cleared a preeminent victory over their opponents.
