MARKETS, METALS AND MINING -GOODLOCALS The stock market went off badly at the close yesterday, after a day of unsuccessful burking against i profit taking. Dut there was noth ing in the close to indicate that the reaction would continue, the outlook on the other hand favoring resump tion of advance today or tomorrow. A new, or rather a returned, factor is In the market, represented by the public, which has suddenly come back. The brokers, glad to see the public again buying, have been nursing the situation with exceeding care. Their advice has been to sell on all advances, and It has been fol lowed. But the market has gained strength right along Just the same and the situation Is growing to one that will soon be Impervious to the late form of procedure. Indications are favorable for a sharp bull campaign on Ely Centrai at early date. Boston-Ely also looks as if near to point where it will do some more Jumping. Reports from Ward give reason to expect that Ne vada United will very soon return to high activity in the market, and if the late discovery at the property works out as now expected this stock will be in line for big advance. K. W. HCLSK A CO. LETTER. 1 Yesterday was another of thoBe "slightly disfigured but stii* In the ring" days. The market went back Into Its old rut and took on that gloomy look to which local traders have become very much accustomed of late. There were several marked declines, although this was ijot gen eral, and the entire market was any thing but of nn encouraging nature. The bears again had a red-letter day. Just what helped them In their ef forts today would be too deep for the proverbial Philadelphia lawyer. Per haps It was the earthquake west of this district. Showing For Three Months Is Better Than First Quarter of 1909. Commenting upon the March re port of the copper producers, a mem ber of the association said to the Wall Street Journal: "Wall street can, of course, be de-1 pended upon to take the most pessi- | mistic view of the March copper statement which falls considerably short of expectations, but Wall street 1 makes the error in drawing sweeping conclusions from one month's show ing. Much is being said of the fail ure of production to show a decline, but as a matter of fact the production of 1910, figured on the basis of re turns for the first quarter, would be below 1909. Last year 1,405,000, 000 pounds of ropper were produced, while so far this year we have made copper at the rate of 1,397.000,000 j pounds for the year. "Last year there were delivered to 1 domestic consumers 705,051,000 , pounds, while domestic deliveries so j far this year have been at the rate of j 830.484.000 pounds for the twelve1 months. Exports are at the rate of 638.584.000 pounds for 1910, which! is below 1909's total of 680,942,000 ! pounds, but this can hardly be con sidered as a bear argument since ex ports equal to those of a year ago would inevitably mean an increase in the already large stocks abroad. “There Is no use denying that the March statistics were disappointing, but, on the other htnd, it cannot be denied that the showing of the cur rent year to date has been all that could reasonably expected. Produc tion is running below that of last t year, domestic deliveries are at a1 rate greater than ever known before; and the stocks in this country are j 18,000,000 pounds less than at the : beginning of this year and about the same as at the beginning of last year. | "World's stocks on January 1, , 1910, stood at 385.970,000 pounds,' as rompared with world’s stocks of j 373.449.000 pounds as of April 1,1 1910." S1LYKH HII.I.S WOliK. H. H. Cloud, a mining engineer of 1 Los Angeles, Cal., has identified him-| self with and is promoting the devel- i opment of the Cheyenne and Silver Hills groups of claims owned by W. ! A. Rogers, of Tonopah, and located 1 in the Sliver Hills Lone Mountain mining district. The Cheyenne group ' consists of seven claims and covers some 3,000 feet of a well-defined vein that gives returns from $13 to $85 per ton in gold, silver, copper and lead. The Silver Hills group con sists of four claims and covers some 3,000 feet of a well-defined vein from which assay returns have been taken of $95 in value. The properties are as yet in an undeveloped condition, hut the surface showings are good enough to warrant a certain amount of development. THE NEVADA MEAT CO.
