markets, metals and mining BETTEJIfflICES There was some awakening yester day and indications are not lacking that an upward spurt may soon come on. Locally, Kly Central should en liven things greatly within the next week. Kntry of the shaft to the ore will almost unquestionably send this stock upward, and it should reach the ore within the next three or four days. Boston Kly is also to be ex pected to do its holders a good turn within short time. When the winze reaches water level and gets the ore body, this stock must advance sharp ly. As for the copper list as a whole, there is not outlook for sustained gain of material importance until the metal situation Improves. The price fell off another quarter cent yesterday. But while this is embar rassing to the high cost producers it ought to aid the low cost porphyries. The lower the price goes the better It ought to be for such stocks as Utah Copper, Nevada Con., Inspiration and others of this class. A fact that gets small consid eration In views expressed as to mar ket conditions is that the stocks are all comparatively high now when ranged alongside the prices which .prevailed a couple years ago, when thousands upon thousands of shares of all kinds were taken in by invest ors and locked in strong boxes. Mar ket sales since tell absolutely that the great bulk of these cheaply bought stocks are still locked up, which is the best of evidence that there is no lack of confidence in the future. Everybody is waiting, and in the market neglect which attends this attitude is explanation of the downward trend to which stocks have been subject the last several months. E. W. HI LNK & CO LETTER. A much brighter aspect generally and considerable activity in many of the issues, made yesterday’s market the only cheerful one of the entire week. Many of the bigger issues came out of their slump and closed as if better tilings can be expected. Ad vices from the inside are that better markets are on the way and yester day's stock actions generally were such as to Indicate that the hunch might be correct. Then, again, there came the report of tile striking of the Copper Flat fault In the Eureka shaft of the Ely Central which is STOCKS ARE ALWAYS MOVING We have every move. The Ogilvie lease on the Blue Bull, formerly the Brenneman lease, Gold field, has at a depth of 150 feet, only some 20 feet beyond where work was stopped by the former operators, opened a three-foot ore shoot, and sorting the break down to about 50 per cent of its entire volume is giv ing the leasers a shipping product valued at close to $100 per ton. The ore is holding up well and a ship ment of several tons will go out the first of next week. The former leas ers lost the ore shoot, but Mr. Ogilvie and his associates found that a hard dyke had cut it off and thrown the shoot ofT at almost right angles to Its former trend.
