MARKETS, METALS AND MINING MARKET STILL ON DOWN GRADE UNUSUALLY LIGHT BUSINESS ON EASTERN’ CURBS YESTERDAY BUSINESS AFFAIRS ECLIPS ED BY ROOSEVELT'S RETURN. savs- & C 8 market IeUer sayB. Trading was more than usu ally light in the eastern markets yes terday, the principal cause for this being that ex-President Roosevelt's return proved such a tremendous af fair that interest was detracted from ail else, including business. There was more or less scattered trading, all through the day, however, and prices as a whole strengthened slight ly. The threatened investigation of the U. 8. Steel corporation and its subsidiary companies, coming imme diately after the horizon had been cleared of the administration railroad controversy, had a bad efTect on the already depressed situation and caus ed the market to become more shaky as the week passed. The general im pression has been that with the aid of Mr. Roosevelt these troubles could be amicably settled and further oc currences of the kind possibly avert ed and now that he is on the scene once more it is possible that a large amount of confidence will be restored and business conditions improve. The steadying of! j the market yesterday may have been a forerunner of an improved condi tion but any great swing for the bet ter can hardly be expected at once. The present state of affairs was not brought about in a day, neither is it liable to be eradicated within such a short time. The continued rumors in the east of threatening war between large copper interests may yet prove to have some foundation and if it should take place the present low prices of copper securities will be but a marker to the levels they will reach then. After bolding its own up un til now, although it also was troubled with lack of trading the Salt Lake market broke badly the past week and now prices of stocks listed there are comparatively as low as are the larger ones of the east. The Tintiofe were the ones that felt the slump worst and prices of these stocks drop ped to those of mere prospects. That the Mason Valley Mines com pany stock will be listed on the New York and Boston stock exchanges Just as soon as the arrangements can be perfected, is tne news brought from the east by Fred Fllndt, says the Salt Lake Tribune. This will be good news indeed for the Mason Val ley stockholders. When asked for the significance of this procedure, Mr. Flindt Haid on Wednesday: “It will take from sixty to ninety days to list the stork, for the com pany must collect the required data, new certificates must be prepared and a new report made on the property, so as to bring mine conditions as near to date as posisble. Listing will be of great benefit to the stock, as the Boston and New York investor has more ccn dence in a listed issue, and rightfully so. When listed, also,, stocks have a collateral value at the banks which they do not have under other conditions. During the past month the Mason Valley stock has been active in New York, and es pecially in Boston, ana good orders are coming in for this issus from strong sources.’’ Parrot. 16.50 Quincy. 70.00 70.00 Rawhide.22 .22 Ray Central_ 2.68% 2.26 Ray Con. 16.50 16.37% Royale. 17.50 17.75 Shannon. 10.12% 10.12% Sup. & Pittsburg 10.25 10.25 Tamarack. 47.00 46.75 Tenn.
