MAY SmlFAIFA > 10 EASTERN POINTS , That Nevada is coming to the front at the Panama Pacific exposition with its alfalfa is pro-'od in a note just re ceived from L. B. Patrick, who has AfeSRfte- of the agricultural exhibit at the San Francisco exposition, says the Journal. **'The G. W. McNear company, one of the largest grain tnd hay shippers of the world, is seeking to close a 50, 060- toil order a year at market prices tor choice alfalfa meal. The manager of the SanFraiif'scoalfalla wants to locate growers' cooperative associ ations in the state who can fill ord era of his company. Patrick's 'Letter. Patrick's letter states: if'If the Nevada alfalfa growers will cooperate to liucii an extent that they will be in a position to close a con tract with any concern of interna tional reputation, they may be more awured of their alfalfa hay market ttian Ly working individually antf selling baled liny. :"The enormous increase in produc tton of alfalfa, the reduction of de mind for baled l;ay in the last two years, which bids fair to be main tained, and the high prices asked by Pvestock owners for their stock should make the growers agreeable to such a proposition. Can Grov< 200,000 Tons. "Novada can produce and ship an nntlly 200,000 tons of alfalfa meal with an added expense of a very few dollars in machinery. Our quality, color and extreme dry clean hay can compete with any alfalfa produced In the world, and much of our future prosperity depends upon Ihe ability of our farmers lo meet new condi tions and cooperate with men who supply tly world's export markets. "With a norma! production of four to six tons an acre, a clear net In crement to. the lar.d owner can be re alised by a little attention to the other man's wants. People owning lands, sooner or later, must price them on the basH of production. We know ourselves what they will pro duce but that dor's not bring in new money ? we must prove It. The mob ia looting a German furniture shop In High street. ncal would mean a considerable tmo'int to any Nevada community to lay and there are several valleys cap ible of feeding all their present quota stock and still supply an alfalfa meal plant of the above capacity. : rtoads Might Cooperate "Trie principal item after a mill is ostablished is ono of freight and I feel sure, if the matter is presented in the proper light to any of our rail roads, they will consider it very ser iously nnd take steps to establish a special commodity rate to the coast ind thus facilitate rapid and econom ical handling to the eastern markets I of the United States by Panama canal routes. "It is indeed a pleasure for Dean C. I S. With a little coopera i tlon from our home people and farm I ?r3 and less of the vague, blind I "knocking" from those who pretend j to be interested in Nevada, I feel pos itlve we can be able to show our Ne j vnda people what conservative, con i structive publicity will do for the j state in general Mid the farmers in j particular." MR MANN MADE SPLENOID TALK Following a reception tendered Hon. James R. Mann, republican leader In the house of representa tives, by Governor Boyle at the man | slon yesterday afternoon. Mr. Mann | addressed a large concourse of peo ; pie at Capitol park. In his remarks ' the gentleman eschewed politics al together, though it has been taken that his trip "around the circle" has | been for the purpose of creating sen timent favoring his candidacy for the republican nomination for president j In the approaching campaign, and devoted his address to generalities, with a little "bull" thrown in. Mr. i Mann Is a pleasant talker, of the 1 rough and ready order, and his brief dinsertlon on patriotism. In which I lie implored his hearers to support i the president In the ordeal the coun try is i.ow passing through, brought out volumes of applause. j Mr. Mann concluded hla address ; aboii: 4:30, and a little later left for j Reno, where ho made a talk In ihe j Majestic theater later In the evening. The visit of Mr. Mann to Nevada | will probably be productive of good, ao in his brief tour of the state, un 1 fortunately limited, he was enabled . to <ll3cern many of the disadvantages under which we are laboring and which need governmental support. ?
