EASTERN BUSINESS ON THE BOOM F. M. Lee, the well known banker who lius just returned to his home On Keno from a three weeks' trip to Hos Ion and other Eastern cities had tlie following to say in an interview pub lished in the CSazette: "I was delighted lo make the trip East and see at first hand what 1 have been reading in the papers about the big war business t li.it is being Tar ried on in the Eastern cities and (he reported wave of prosperity -that has struck this country. "It was amazing to note the changes in business since February, when 0 was there before. The war orders were just appearing, and now the scene has changed lo \sonderful activ ity in both manufacturing war sup plies and munitions and also along constructive lines. 'It is truly the time of doing big things throughout the OCast, financially and industrially, and there is such an elated feeling of optimism that some of the large banking interests are try ing lo force the handling of bill of lading drafts in terms ol American dollars as the standard of value in stead of the time-honored pound ster ling. "The floating of the astonishingly large credit war loan was the accotn . plishment of the greatest undertaking ' 1 in that line, and till.* financing by our' country Is now being followed by in- ' vesting In our phenomenally largo I bond issues put out by Germany, Rus- ! sia, and the latest by London, all at j attractive rales, and all establishing a i new era showing the ability of this ' country io establish itself as the finan cial power of tho world. "The successful organization led by . Mr. Vanderlip and other associates in j the National City Hank, of the $50,-' t'UO.OOO capitalized company with the object of paving the way to open the j cbn'nnels of trad-; for larger and bet- j lor business relations between this j country and the South American and | Oriental countries, is a very progres sive move and the American people should have a feeling of thankfulness for the pioneering enterprise which is l?Oth unique and gigantic. "The spirit of investment and spec ulation appears to be very manifest in place of the feeling of hesitancy to wards investments that has so long existed, seeming to indicate that there J is security felt from continued rcstric- j lions and unnecessary regulations of j big business enterprises by (he pres- 1 < nt administration or thai there is a ? well founded feeling that there is go- j ing to be a change to a Republican j .administration with its policies of pro- j tection and business building. "Even some notice is now being 1 1 taken of long neglected railroad j < shares as an investment because of I the notieable increase in earnings 1 1 Beauty of Style ?
