The Parson in his general interest for the rising genera tion, is running a little Sunday School for the benefit of the youthful Genoese. Amohg the Christian children in attendance there are two spreading branches of the stock of Abraham. The prevailing tenor of instruction is in view of the coming Christmas. One of the carrols taught was, "Carol, Carol Christians, Carol ! " In the evening the parent of these rabbins, inquired as to what they had learned. The yonngest said it was a Christmas hymn. "What" said the old gentleman! "Why don't you know?" said the .boy, "It was Kelly, Kelly Christians, Kelly! " In Token of Respect. Flags were flying at half mast yesterday from the Mint, the County Building and many private and public houses in respect of the memory of our much lamented townsman, Hon H, F. Rice. Indeed there is a deeper sense of moumfulness per vading all classes and all households than we have ever noticed here before. The esteem in which Mr. Rice was held is not measured by the limits of party, faction or sect. It is not circumscribed even by the bounds of per sonal popularity. It stands upon the solid basis of genuine respect. We have received from the publisher W. I. Thompson & Co., Liverpool, Ohio, a copy of a new and charming piece of music entitled "Drifting with the Tide " We heard it the other evening rendered by an alto and so prano, to our notion unsurpassed, and they made us think it one of the sweetest things i i mi i . we ever neara. j.ne words and music are tender, the chorus strong with melody and the notes of the refrain awful nice. Go and get it and try it. Price 40 cents. All Book sellers have it. JfoT Ope? till Monday. Certain detach ments of infantry are our authority for say ing that the Carson District School will re main closed during the remainder of the present week. We think the plan a wise pne. This world is governed too much ; and school children have all too few days' of leis ure and too little relaxation from their over charged round of studies. Closed for Thanksgiving, j The Mint stands closed for the day. Also it will re main shut to-morrow in respect to the mem ory of ex-Superintendent Rice. Indeed, some, if not all the persons employed there are excused from work until Monday next. The Pioche Record of Saturday last relates the following: On last Wednesday a murder ous assault was made on one Schwauber. a tailor, by Ferdinand Brisanger, also a tailor, and who is better known in Pioche by the name of "Schneider." Brisinsrer committed the assault with a cane, having a lead ball fixed at one end, and was only prevented from finishing up and killing Schwauber by the timely arrival of Andy Snodgrass, who, hear ing the victim's cry for help, entered the house and prevented Brisinger from doing any further harm. Mr. J. W. Wright and Snodgrass succeeded in taking Brisingor away from the house and disarming him taking from him a loaded six-shooter after which he was conveyed to the jail by Dave Kent and locked up. Schwauber was attended to by Dr. Lee, who found that he had several very severe scalp wounds, but none of them neces sarily dangerous. On questioning Schwauber in regard to the assault he knew nothing of the reason for it, having seldom or ever had any communication with Brisinger. We learn, however, that Brisinger, who is half-witted or partially insane, has been the victim, and nearly a murderer, on account of some parties playing practical jokes. These parties having stolen his violin, shot through his house, and written threatening letters to him, signing Schwauber's name, and also putting into the head of Brisinger that Schwauber had com mitted the acts mentioned above and was going to kill him (Brisinger). To fool with and put such ideas into a half-witted or insane man s head cannot be too severely condemned, and thoso parties can take unto themselves the happy consciousness that by their prac tical joking they have nearly caused the death of one man and perhaps the hanging of the other. The Princess Von Bisniark is a very plain woman, with a sensible face, "anxious and worried in its expression." Her only daughter is as homely as a girl can well be, and perhaps that is what worries tho mother. This is a rare chance for the ladies to buy Cloaks and Furs for less than their real value.
