MORNING APPEAL. TFEVIUT FKBBCABr 26..IS78 SUNDAY ECHOES. Our churches wore nt a.s well filled on Sunday as they should have been. Mud, anything for an excuse. Carson has tine com fortable churches find good preachers and tliev ousrht to be well mtromzeii. It our Sunday preachments satisfy tlie public, we will desist, we'oidy aim to second the reverend clergy. Among the persons who should attend churches regulaviy are the numbers of our constabulary. They would receive nutriment. Then if they should get tired and wish to leave before the sermon was over, they would find ample scope for their powers in arresting the hoodlum who gather around some of the churches during service time, and by their mischievous and unwarrantable noise, disturb the congregations within. Oue of our pastors has informed s that the thing is growing to be a great nuisance. It ought to be stopped. A word to the who, policeman. Two clergymen officiated together at the Episcopal church recently. As they came in through the rear door, in their white robes, an irreverent young terrible, said to his compan ion, "There they come come. Them's the Holy Ghosts." A boy in Sunday School iiikoa another way tliev had lesson papers, "Cause the teachers dont know nolhin' to say without it's printed, was the reply. PERSONAL. Our much esteemed friend General O. H T.Graiv'e. late Sum. xinter.doiit of the San 0 j i Francisco Mint, returned to that point yester day on his way home from Bodie and adjacent mining districts, where he is largely interested as a mine owner. The editor very much re jjrets that his indisposition, keeping him at home, prevented his meeting the General who took the train last night for Oakland. He expects to return this way in the course of three or four weeks to look after his inter ests in Bodie where we hope he will make a fortune. A Lively Team. On Saturday last two brothers, who own a ranch a few miles from this city, upon which they employ a large force of help, were out plowing, and experi meriting with a young calf, which they de sired to break in for that purpose. The juvenile bovine was hitched to the plow, but did not operate very satisfactorily. John, the eldest, said to his brother Sam, a stout young fellow about twenty-eighfr years old, "Sam you'd better stick your head through the yoke with the calf, and maybe the critter'd work better." Sam did as he was bid; but no sooner had he done so when the calf became unmanageable, as if possessed of a million devils, kicked up lm heels and literally flew down the ranch with the plow dangling at his heels, which as a matter of course, only in creased the fury of the beast, and Sam's neck was still sticking in the yoke with the expori ment. Sam hollered out at the top of his Tico, "here wo go, we two d n fools; head 11s off." lut no one headed them. At length the pair brought up against a fence, which naturally impeded the progress of the team John came running up, expecting to find his brother killed, but no damage was done beyond a fright. John immediately began unyoking Sam, who, in his indignation turned around and said, "John, you d n infernal fool, wn- yoko the calf fir. t, I'll stand, 1 wont runaway.' The brothers have decided to discontinue ex lerinienting with calves in the plowing line all of which is a ise conclusion. This is a true stoi y, and no nonsense. A Mkkky Go Rovni. The District Court is in session at Aurora. The Court always brings diii. rent kinds of people togother and frequently mixes up things as well as straight ens them ut. At the above place and term there is a divorce suit on, between one Rab- john and his wife. They are both in attend mice. The former is Justice of the Peace. Last week while patiently awaiting the denou- nient, one Davis, the former husband of Mrs, Rabjoho, appeared with a young and bloom ing Miss and was married to her bv his Honor Mr. Ri.bjolm. Then Mrs. Rabjohn a hus band th t was, but who is now the husband of another, and Mrs. Rabjohns husband that is, but who isn't to be the husband of anyone, that is, just at present, if she wins her case, called upon Mrs. Rabjohn that is, and were cheerfully and pleasantly received and passed a very cosy hour together. Somebody said, guess it must have been Mrs. Rabjohn, it might havo been her first venture or per chance her second, "You see there is noth ing mean about me." Don't seem as if there was about any of them. They all parted with good wishes for the future in their several departments. As Sam Weller said to Mrs. Bardell and ker friend "I wish they may get it-" What we like about happy family gath erings of that sort, is the sociability. We may have trifling differences, but the great thing in this life is to be sociable, cheerful like, not allowing little incompatibilities to interfere with the social virtues. A Hundred Voices. This (Tuesday) even ing the several classes of Mr. Clark are to be. consolidated into one huge singing society, at which time a big noise may be anticipated. Governor Bradley returned last night from Virginia. 9 THE ADAH RICHMOND TROUPE. Last night at the representation of the burlesque of "Kenilworth," the Carson The ater was crowded to repletion by as fashion able and appreciative an audience as has ever congregated within the walls of that ancient Thespian temple. The troupe has been so favorably heralded by the press, that it was perfectly natural for Carsonites, who are proverbially a theater going people, to turn ouj en maw. They were not dissappointed, for the entertainment was all as represented. In the play or burlesque of Kenilworth there is no more of a plot than is customarily en countered in a burlesque, but the situations are immense and laughable, and the singing is artistic. The lady members of this troupe are, without exception, beauti ful and formed in the mould of perfection. Miss Richmond has one of the most bewitch ingly charming-faces, and a voice of superior culture. Her acting is admirable, and she is in every respect .a burlesque star of the first magnitude. Her duet with Miss Susie Par. ker, in the first act, was admirably and artis tically rendered. Mr. G113 l!ruso, in the char acter of a bank director of 110 means, i3 huge. In fact, to be brief, as it is late, tlie Adali Richmond troupe is an excellent and amus ing one. io-nignt will ie presented tne burlesque of " Chow-Chow." This is said to be one of the best pieces in their repertoire. Secure your seats early, as there will be a great jam. PENCIL SCRATCHES. 1 wo nineteen mule teams, arawin three large wagons each, loaded with merchandise for Gillson A Barber, started for Bodie ves terday morning. The nind is drying up very fast, on Carson street. People get across more easily and do not soil their feet. The horses must fee better, for they don't go so far down, the wag 011s move more rapidly and teamsters do not frown. We've been wishing great big wishes wading deep from day to day; now our epi thets are milder, on a firmer, better way. The tramp who did the materializing ac knowledges the fraud. Says he got away with about thirty dollars, which is more than he could have made in the same time at anv other business. Thinks Carson a good town for a side show. It was finally concluded that this preaching and writing against hell was the cause of the falling off of justice. Total de pravity must come to the front and give the boys a shw. A committee of one was ap pointed to raise a row, and the court adjourn ed until this morning at ten.
