HEW ADVERTISES EWTM. THE DRY GOODS TRADE DEFIED SATURDAY A CGI ST SO, 1SSI MOKNING APPEAL THE JjEFEYBE 1IUKOEB. The Golden Era publishes the following : A correspondent of the Era asks why we discnoa the Lefevre murder when it mnst be apparent to the commonest under etandin? that notbin we can say will place the murdered man again among the living -or imperil the ife and iberty of his mu rderer br subjecting him to a second trial. Conceding that both of these things are among the impossibilities we yet maintain that there are many and sufficient reasons -why wf should place the d tails of this most infamous murder, together with the incidents that 'er up to it, before the pub lic as often as we think our d ing so will aid honest people in reaching the real facts of the case. The opinion is general that Dr. Lpfevre was foully murdered, and we j have Lis dving words in support of the assumption tat he whs innocent f the crime for which he was shot down without a moments warning. He left a widow to whom his memory is dt-ar. It will be cobo ation to this poor woman to feel tl at the world acknowledges the innocence of her husband, and condemns if it cannot legally punish the conspirators who laid mm in a bloody gr ve. His memory is dear to his orphaned clii dren. and if his innocence is established, as we believe it will be, a c ond that won d otherwise darken the lives of these little ones will to diape"fd, and in the coming years, wh. n they are men an women, they will cheriMi his memory with the love and reverence that is the natural impulse of the good man's offspring. This is much but is not all. The finger of scorn and contempt must be pointed at those for whoso sms Dr. Lefevre was made responsib e. There is one man and there is one woman who knows that Dr. Lefevre was not in the bouse on the evening that Shroeder claims to have felt the first suspicion of his wife's honesty. An innocent man was murdered to pave a guilty one. Conscience will make this woman talk some day and then the world will know what we are now as confident of as if we had proofs as strong as Holy Writ When she does ta'k the rich man. the President of a great corpora tion, who now feels himse f so hedged abont t at the eve of snspicion will never rest npon him, will realized that thongh gold is powerful it is not ail-powerful, and that though the guilty may escape for a time, murder will nt in the end. Surely the vindication of th- innocence of one who cannot now defend himceir one vho was foullv mnrdered and his roemorv black ened in order that the gui ty might escape is a duty no one who believes God is just should evade. The plan of the old man is to secure control of politi cal affairs in New York (State, by uniting all discordant e'ements of the Democratic party, to nominate a State ticket of his own men this Fall, and next vear to make the Gubernatorial race himself. This wonld place him in a good position to make his calculations for the Bourbon Presidential race of 1884. While there is room for many doubts respecting TM Jen's reap pearanco in politics, still he is known as i close observer and a remarkable wirepuller. Although be is bow an ol d man it would not surprise many to see bis name headin g the Democratic ticket in 1884. It is a difficult thing to get ahead of the New York small boy. The latest form of industry employed by the infant terrible of the streets of New York is to throw some filthy compound on a lady's dress, and then, calling her attention to it, offer to clean it off for her. Recently a youngster was caught in the act, and it was discovered that he bad worked so well throughout the day that Lis pockets were well filled wiih halves, quarters and dimes that had been given him by grateful ladies. It would seem that, after this, human ingenuity in the wy of extorting money had reached its limit. In the local columns will be found a de scription of an ostrieh farm presided over by one Theodore Glaacey. The raising of the bird is bat an experiment in Nevada but it bids fair to be a successful one. A few years at f ortherest will demonstrate the practical value of the bird and its adaptability to. the Nevada climate. The . rigorous Winters 6eem to be the only draw back, bnt with proper care this objection can be overcome. Persons desirous of learning r more of Mr. Glancey's experi ment can hear from him by mail. His address is Carson. The Canadian authorities refuse to de liver up the notorious swindler and bogus priest, O.iitene Derohan. with a score of aliases, who escaped from the Missouri Penitentiary some months ago, on the ground that forgery, the crime of which he was convicted, is not an offense for which a prisoner is subject to extradition. The document to which President Garfield at tached bis signature a few days ago was the extradition paper in this case. "Is this a tforeign country ?" asks an Eastern journal.
