Revolved, That the honor and glory of the Republic, its con- inued peace, prosperity ana rosrress will bo best served by the nerretuation and continued success of the Republican party. We declare our fidelity to its Drincinles as expressed in the Chicago platform of JSSO, and as further embodied in its great history from its organization to the present time. Resolved, That in tne tragic- death of President Garfield our country has suffered a deplorable loss, and the Republican party mourns for one who consecrated noble and heroic life to the vindication of its great purposes. Resolved, That we nave iann the prudent and sagacious in administration of President Arthur and believe it will result in promoting the best interests of the country. Resolved, That the presence a our midst of a servile race of aliens, incapable of assimilating ith our institutions is a per petual menace to all classes of society. The relief extended to our people by the passage of a law excluding the Chinese by a Republican Congress and ap proved by a Republican Presi dent is a genuine cause of satis faction. We are in favor of strenuously enforcing the pro visions of said law, and we pledge the Republican party to labor now and henceforth to secure such farther legislation as will permanently exclude the Chinese. Resolved, That we recognize the paramount Importance of maintaining unimpaired the free public school system of the Stare. We shall defend it against sectarian, political or other im proper influences, and we favor such additional legislation as the condition and wants of the com mon schools of the State may require. As free institutions they should be to conducted as to satisfy poor and rich alike, and upon this principle we urge the adoptiwn of some system ly which thi3 State shall furnisli the text books at the lowest pos sible figure. Resolved, That owing to the remote position of Nevada from the seaboard and the entire ab sence of navigable waters and competing lines' of railroads to and 'from commercial centers, we demand from Congress such wholesome and effective legis lation as will place our people ou terms of equality in respect to transportation charges with com munities specially favored by railroad monopolies. Resolved, That we pledge the Republican party of Nevada to such a course of enlighten.d legislation as will extend to rail road and all other corporations doing business in this State the same protection and the same rights before the law as accorded to individuals no more and no less. And further, that the Re publican party favors and de mands at the hands of the State Legislature legislation regula ting and equalizing freights and fares on all railroads within this State. Resolved, Th?t we are in favor of the Government of the United States establishing a postal tele graph service, and operating the same in connection wiih tae Postofflce Department. Resolved, That the coinage ol silver should be placed upon the same basis as that of gold, and we invoke early Congressional legislation to that end. Resolved, That it is the duty of the Legislature to enact such laws as will result in the puri fication of the jury box and better promote the administra tion of justice. Resolved. That it is the duty of the next Legislature to pass such laws as shall reduce the expenses of State and county governments to the lowest pos sible limit consistent with the requirements of the public ser vice. Resolved, That the earnest attention of Congress and the State Legislature is directed to the subject of codifying the laws relating to the location and working of mineral lands to the end that legitimate prospec ting nnd the development of our chief source of wealth may best be promoted. Resolved,, That the appropri ation by a Republican Congress for the payment of pensions to invalid Union soldiers nud to the veterans of the Mexican war is the discharge of a debt of honor and law a generous re membrance of our country's de fenders in its supreme hour of peril. Resolved, That :n the judg ment of this convention the Legislature, when next con vened, should make the neces sary provisions lor a convention to revise the entire Constitution of the State; that in providing for such convention, well-guarded restrictions should be made, defining the number of delegates their compensation, and hxmg the duration of its session ; that we iK'lieve such a convention is t 1 1 A.
