It is usual for newspapers to come out and make a ringing endorsement of every name on the county ticket the morning j after the nominations. Such ar- tides are generally written in the heat of excitement which follows a convention, and as gen uine endorsements are compara tively worthless. It is better to learn something of the habits and characteristics of candidates before committing one's self to an unqualified endorsement. The county fight is now fairly mude, and as the election draws near the Appeal wishes to draw the attention of the Re publican voters of Ormsby to the ticket which they are called upon to support. GEN. T. I). EDWARDS. Is one of the oldest residents as well as one of the oldest Repub licans in Orrasby county. This is not the first time he has been called upon to serve the people, having been appointed as Dis trict Attorney in 18G3, aud was elected by a decisive majority to the Assembly in 18G5. General Edwards is a gentleman partic ularly fitted for the responsible position of District Judge, and since his nomination not a whis per has been raised against his personal or political record. He can administer the law impar tially to friend or foe, and will honor the Bench he sits upon. IT. G. PARKER Is one of the live representa tive men of Ormsby county. He came here poor and worked his way to the front by hi9 in dustry, sagacity and general go-aheaditivenes?. He is a live, determined man who perhaps has made personal enemies in Carson. It is because he speaks his sentiments on all occasions, and scorns the work of dissem bling, hypocrisy and evasion. Where ho has made one oppo nent by his manly, open course, he has made a dozen friends and is now making the sort of red-hot, aggressive fight for himself and the whole ticket which will tell on election day. Mr. Parker ia the Senate cham ber will be a live working rep resentative of his constituents A. HELM Is also an old resident of Carson, who has been identified with its politics and business for many years. He is a square, con siderate, conservative man, and you always know where to find him. F. BOSK OAVITZ Has beeu in business here for nearly a dozen years, and his record is an open book. Hones', liberal and live, he will be an active man in the Assembly. o. n . BROWN". Of Empire has been for a long time connected with the milling interests and will carry Empire by a good majority. His record as a citizen is staunch and sound. With the four men who have been nominated for the Legisla ture Ormsby county will have a representation of live working men who go there to look after their own county, and during the entire session every one will be at his post of duty. S. T. SWIFT, Nominee for Sheriff, Is a proper ty holder and taxpayei and has been elected several tim?s be fore to the office of Sheriff. Year after year he has managed the office so that every cent was accounted for and everything ran as smooth as clockwork. It was only when a change W; 9 made tint a Grand Jury was oblighd to investigate the mat ter, and bondsmen were suffer ers in consequence, M. I. HATCH. Was elected two years ago by a small vote, but this year he will have a bigger one. His record in the County Clerk's office has fully demonstrated his fitness for the place, and every man who has dealings with the oflice can testify to the fact that it was never better kept. j. 1. KERSEY, Nominee for Assessor, has served one term in a manner creditable to himself and party which elected hiiu. He is the strongest man for the place that could have been nominated in Ormsby counly. J. D. TOKREYSON, Our uext District Attorrify. is a young man who did more for himself, by his short, sensible speech in the convention than any newspaper endorsement could effect. He is a man of ability, education and good legal training, and will fill the office with the activity and enthusi asm of a young man ambitious to make a good mark. Every vote for J. D. Torreyson is a re buke to his opponent, a man who turned his back upon his party the moment he ascer tained that it would uo longer give him oflice. JAMES FRAZKR, County Treasurer. Such wine as this needs no brush. This blunt, honest, old Scotchman, who has handled the county's money so long, is known through long years of residence to every voter in Ormsby. The money f the taxpayers could be left in his hands without counting it CHARLES MARTIN, An old line Republicas, is run ning lor County Recorder. He thoroughly understands the duties of the office, and is in every respect qualified to shoul der its responsibilities. H. H. HOWE Has for years past made an ex cellent School Superintendent, and his methods of instruction have given the best of satisfac tion to the families whose chil dren he has taught. The school question is an important one this year, and Republicans must not forget the plank in the plat form on the subject, nor the plank in the enemy's platform which declares the school ques tion out of politics." C. C. ATHERTON Is nominated as County Com missioner for the short term, and is a representative man of Ormsby ; an old business resi dent who will make an excel lent County Commissioner. J. H. MARTIN Has also been in active business for years, and thoroughly un derstands the wants of the tax payers. w. m . CARY Is on both tickets and can pad dle along without any assistance from any quarter. The Demo crats endorsed him because they knew they could not beat him. It. R. CRAWFORD, The nominee for Constable, is a young man of good habits and reputation, and the son of Israel Crawford, one of the old war horses of the party. In the dis charge of his duties he will make a reliable and first-class officer. . A. " By the way, Brown, I've often wanted to point out to you a little defect in your delivery. You see, when you make a good point you sink your voice so lew that not over half of the audience hear it and the effect is lost." " Ah, indeed, much obliged. There is also a slight defect in your method f speaking that will give no offense I hope if I call attention to it." " Not at all, I .shall feel obli gated to know it. Nothing like an exchange of information be tween friends." " Well, I've always noticed that when you have any specially asinine idea to commu nicate you bawl it out so loud that people hear it half a block. The other day an old farmer was passing a store in Carson when the proprietor rushed out and hailed him with : Why don't you trade with me any more?" Thought you'd quit." " What made you think so?" "Did'nt see your advertise ment anywhere in the papers, and I 'sposed you'd pulled up stakes and gone off somewhere. The folks all think so vp my way."
