Vallandigham, died at Cumberland, Md., at 1 ! o'clock, on Sunday mornine, August 13th. She was strick en down by the sudden death of her husband, and baa been suffering severely ever since from physical ami mental pros tratson. A few weeks since she was taken to Cumberland, at the request of her physician, who was in hopes that the tnj and a change of nir would re suit in a change for tie better, but all was in vaiu. Her re mains were deposited in a vault at that city and will be remov ed to Dayton for interment in the family burying ground as soon as the weather will per in it. be the The Meeting in McArthur To-day. 1 The Democratic meeting tc dav is a success, many voters of both parties being present from all part3 of the county. The meeting is being held in Sherwood's Grove, east of town, and organized by calling Hon. Alomnd Soule to the Chair. Three speakers are present: Gen. Geo. W.Morgan, our can didate for Governor; Col. J. K. Cockerill, candidate for Aud itor of State; and Col. L. Baber of Columbus. Co). Cockerill made one of the best speeches ever heard in this county to a very enthusi astic audience, and it had a good effect. Several Uepnb licaus were present, and the eloquence of the facts and the figures, as ably and earnestly presented by the Colonel, made them feel that their checks were being passed in. I Gen. McCook having been traveling and speaking almost daily during the past three weeks, ami being unwell and unable even to fill the appoint ment Yesterday, only made a few appropriate remarks. At 5 o'clock the meeting adjourned to assemble at 7 o'clock this evening, at the Court House, to be addressed iy Col Biber. An election was held in Kentucky h'st Monday week for State officers and members of the Legislature. As all well-informed per sons anticipated, the contest in the State resulted in the elec t ion of the State ticket by al most 40.OOU maiority. 1 he v v only test vote ever had between the parties in Kentucky, since the enfranchisement of the ne groes was at the Congressional elections last fall, when the Democratic majority was 32, 211. From the latest returns of the election Monday week, it appears that Governor Les ie's majority will be between 35,000 and 40,000 a Demo era tic gain of several thousand, and this is what the Radicals claim as a victory 1 If bare faced lying would make a vic tory in Kentucky for Radical ism, then that party would ue successful but it won't. Let us give three cheers for old Kentucky ! Representative. The Radical leaders of Vin- on county have been "looking around amongst each other" 'or a candidate to "put up" to defeated for Representative. laving whispered and winked, and wiuked and whispered (a few have cussed, too) too each other about the matter, they have finally concluded that Dr. GonsLiXE of Hamden, will be just such a person as Mr. Soule can very easily beat. The Doctor did not like at first to consent to make silly and useless race, but after they had whispered pleas in his ear that John Sher ought to bo re-elected to United States Senate and another gerrymander of the State of Ohio into Congression al Districts must be made by Radical Legislature next winter, provided the Radicals succeed in obtaining a ma jority, promised the loving whis perers that he would be their martyr. Clluehtton, W. II. Eaolk. There was a full and consultation in regard to free the affairs of the Road, and several matters of importance were considered. . A set of by-laws was adop ted for the government of the Board of Directors, and in ad dition to the officers now pro vided for, it was decided to appoint an assistant Treasurer to take charge of funds at the other end of the route. Mr Will is one of the most respon sible and energetic citizens of Vinton county, and it was a good act in the Board to ap point him. It was decided that the meetings of the Board shall be held at the principal office in Gallipohs, until otherwise or dered, and meetings were or lered on the first and third Saturdays ot every month, and special meetings may be called by order ol the President. Au annual meeting ot the stockholders of the company sltall be held on the third Wednesday of- January of each year. The annual election of officers shall bo held at the same time and place. Compen sation of officers and employes of the company to be fixed by Uoard ot Directors. On motion, The Secretary was ordered make a call for the five dol lars due on each share of stock subscribed to the Gallipolis, McArthur & Columbus Rail road Company, by giving ten days notice through the news papers of the various counties along the line. Reuben Aleshire and T. B. Davis were appointed a Fi nance Committee, whose duty shall be to examine and au dit all accounts, bills, etc., agaiust the Road. It was expected that at this meeting the Directors would locate the Road, but as the es timates were not complete, such could not be done. Maps and profiles were presented and re ceived careful examination. At a meeting, soon to be called, tho location of tho Road will be made. tor II. O. T. Three Cheers for Judge Oakley Case ! About the Railroad. On Saturday, the 5th inst., a meeting of the Directors of the Gallipolis, McArthur & Colum bus Railroad was held at Galli polis, all being present. Hon. II. S. Bundy, one of t ho Direct ors, addressed the people at that place on railroad matters, etc. A synopsis of the speech will be found on the first page of this paper. The proceed ings of the meeting of the Di rectors will be found on this page. The Secretary of the Board was ordered to give no tice to the stock-holders to pay $5 on each share of stock al ready snbscribed. The notice will be found on tho second page of this paper in the ad vertising department. Let the stockholders respond to the call.
