Benedictine has superceded Chartreuse as the fashionable cordial. Fashionable cuspadors are now made of Vesuvian lava. Tortoise shell jewelry still continues in fashion. Pistache is the fashionable tint for note paper just now. Russian leather umbrella cov ers are the latest in the line. Ladies' dresses will be more elaborately trimmed than ever this winter. Watered ribbons are used in in preference to plain ones for bonnet strings. Great quantities of thread lace are used, making bonnets very expensive. New round , hats have very narrow brims and high tapering crowns approaching sugar-loaf shape. Satio leaves, arranged in trail ing garlands, are much used in trimming hats. The ladies are now wearing bright silk handkerchiefs folded over their shoulders. The fashionable style of con versation is becoming Johnson ian, vice slang, resigned.
