Ffoll:ott, findnrg h:s last hour has
come, summons a.u old friend, Father
Dolaa, the parish priest, and his land
ate c, Corry Kinchela. Into their
hands _:e commer:dc his two children,
Itobert and Claire. In later years
Kinchela determines to secure pos
session of the lands and finds he must
eliminate Robert Ffolliott, now of
age. With the aid of Harvey Duff,
an unscrupulous police agent. Robert
is proven to be a Fenian and an
enemy to the crown. While Robert
is hi prison Kinchela induces him to
transfer the estate, declaring the
lands will revert to the crown in the
event of conviction. Robert's sister,
Claire. and his sweetheart. Arte, come
to cheer him. Robert is sentenced to
penal settlement in Australia.
Several years later Robert escapes
and sails for Ireland. When Duff in
forms Kinchela of Robert's return he
plans to capture him, but Robert stur
renders voluntarily. Kinchela, know
ing that thg Queen has announced that
all Fenian prisoners will be pardoned,
pretends friendship to Robert and in
duces him to attemp an escape, hay
ing previously arranged with the sol
diers, in order that Robert may be
shot when he makes the attempt to
get away. But Kinchela overlooks
the crafty Conn: who communicates
with Robert and assists him removing
a portion of the prison wall, through
which he escapes.
In the meantime, Robert's sister,
Claire, decoys Captain Molineaux from
his duty in order that Conn's plans
may not be thwarted. A schooner
rests at anchor and a boat is to be
sent out for Robert when a signal
light appears. The light is to be
flashed when two shots are heard but
Robert finds that he has lost his pis
tol. Conn, however, creeps within
sight of the pursuing peasants direc
ted by Duff, and when two rifle shots
are directed at him he falls supposed
ly dead, while Robert makes his es
cape. It is commonly believed that
Coon has been killed and a wake is
held. Arte and Moya, sweethearts of
Robert and Conn, the only witnesses
of the shooting of the Shaughraun,
are kidnapped by Kinchela. Robert
learns that the Fenian prisoners are to
be pardoned and comes home, only to
find that his sweetheart has disap
peared. Kinchela places the girls on
board of a lugger and are spirited out
of the country. Conn, through a sub
terfuge, comes to the rescue once
more and exposes the villainy of the
plotters. The girls are happily re
united with their swetthearts and
Kinchela and his accomplices are
brought to justice.
