A SINGULAR DISEASE. som u I epe s Ne * IM e Le O a d ks.-tll Smpl tems. A new disease, called germosphiam, hab been described by rs. Charot and Souques. The woh means age-like, and the dbeaso produces an appearance of senility. The case reported was that of a woman whose age was twenty-one, but whose physiognomy was that of sixty to eventy years. Her apparent senility, says the Med ical Journal. was so striking that her father, aged fifty-two, had occasionally been aiked if she were not his mother. The pathology of the case is limited to the skin, especially on the surface, and is a "ldecrepitude of the cutaneous sys ktm." Otherwise the girl had nothing old appearing about her. Her hair was blonde and of average length. Hler lntelligence was good, her mem ory precise, and her judgment reason able, but she was readily frightened when In a crowd or by a ralled and its noises; her emotional nature was fairly well balsaned, but she was despondent on account of her appearanee of age, which she had become to believe was nlcurable, and the slightest indisposi tion begot a fear of death. Her cuta aeous sensibility was normal. The special senses of smell, taste and bear ing were normal. There was a slight impairment of vision, without eontrao tion of the visual feld or color blind ness; there was no areas anlls. The bepete, renal and uterine fuations ap peared to be normally performed. The wrinkling had begun about te years before, at which thime aseeaetved a gret frigh. She was the a bright, jyo.s child. very pretty and rebaed iL er appeare, ad always in the lead of her classes at school. When the change la the skin began there was for a chort time the formation of pim pes, which peasted a few days and then desppeared without uloesrson or ark of any kind. Therse was noaedema of thesntaneous surface. The wrinkling changes took place so rapidly that, it Is stated, her frends were unable to recognise her if they had not sen her within the period of a fartalght; the skl attha time is desearbed as resembliag the "'eales of a sb." No form of treatment, wheth er by eestrleity, hyropaehy or toles, has been competent timproe her en ditle. hST POINT Of ImELANb raw 110010 tit I.__~ l ft.s' bgimontdhih hIn lmi was mnsmbi IS .sfrw fiat htin Tu in hlti moutntlher wassP.
