PRIX DE L'ABONNEMENT: JOURNAL HEBDOMADAIRE, 1.50 par An. Paraissant le Samedi. Entered at the post-offoe at Reserve, CHARLES LASSEIGNE, VOL, second c57. mail matter. (PROISSE ST. JEAN-BHPTIST, mintLtrateur. VOL 57. RESERVE (PAROISSE ST. JEAN-BAPTISTE), LOUISIANE, SAMEDI 29 MAI 1909. NO. 2 A Nos Abonnés. Entertainment in Every Sehool. - The Public Schools of the perish will close their session next Friday, June 4. Each scholl will give some form of doing exercises, entertainments, plays, drills, etc. It is hoped that ii each case the patrons and people generally will show interest by attending these exer cises in their respective communities. It means a great deal to the children to perform and take part in these enter tainments and it should mean more to the fathers and mothers to see their children take part. And we have good reason to believe that in every commun ity where the exercises will be held, the hall will be found adequate for the num ber of people who will come to show interest and appreciation in the good cause of/education. That there is a growing educational interest is evidenced by the fact that so large a multitude of people from all parts of the parish turned out to see the Rally Day, that the children are intense ly interested is evidenced by the fact of their great joy with the expectations of and the fervent desire of continuing in school, and those not in, are eagerly awaiting next session to find themselves in the ranks of education. The people are awaking to the needs of education in every community they have nobly responded to the great work and every school, within the last three months, there has been added one or two libra ries, picturesand other things to encour age the children in their studies, and in one community the people thought that edueation would not be complete if they did not have music, and when they said t it, y got it. More than r coainrtable buidings. Jst a few years back we had such ina~eqa8te buildings tbat our saoola d to be closed during the cold months and had to be opened during the hottest months of the year. To-day, it is a Odtlerent thing. The people has awaken ed and hmseeogsised the fact that bet tar buildings were, needed and at their t request they got what they wanted: good cold-proof buildings with stoves and coal, and now we can follow the method of big schools; close oar schools during the hot months, when all kinds of diseases are ranging and easily con tracted by the children, and open in the winter, which is healthier and more con venient. Skcd leagues are being organised and fters, mothers, children, teachers, School -Board, superintendent, and in fact everybody, are working amiduonuly and marvelous things should result next yew. Our most sincere thanks are extended Sueprintendent A. O. Bernard, the pro motorc all this great good, and the parish in general will n hesitate to recognise him as an energetic worker nad that never before in the educational history of our parish, snah good was accomplished; and hope he will return au uanext semion sad continue his Notice.
