The One Week's Parish Institute held in Garyville last week came to a most sueoesmful close. The Institute was conducted by Prof. A. C. Bernard, our genial parish superintendent, assisted by Mies M. Cross, of Tulane University, and Miss J. Bowden, of the State Nor mal at Natchitoohes. All the teachers of the parish were present and took ac tive interest in the work. Discusions and lectures were had on the subjects outlined by the Board of Education managers and the local pro blems relating to the parish of St. John were thoroughly discussed and explain ed. The teachers were all enthusiastic and anxious to begin their work for the session. The remark was made by several visitors from other parishes that the corps of teachers for the parish of St John was probably the most energetic and enthueastic corps of teachers in the State. There are more teachers this year than ever before and all are higher grade teachers, nearly every one being State Normal or State University grad uates or possessors of first grade certifi cate. Only one or two second and third grade teachers remqin in the parish this year. Every teacher is earnest and left Inhe lstitute ready to demonstrate the good work they intend doing this coming seelon. The sehools were to open on the fol towing'Monday, but the storm prevent ed and it was about the middle of the week before they began in full bloom. However, this week, as expected and predited by the Superintendent, there ia per sent. increase in enrollment imathe perish over any previous year and there are more still to come.
