There never nas been a period in the his tory of our country, when there was so stern a necessity for the exercise of the Southern mind, for Southern good, as at the present moment, when every element of enterprize and independence should be brought to ope rate for our beloved home. Then, at this moment there need be no lengthened appeal in behalf of a Southern Literature no argument to induce the South to refuse such mental pabulum as is furnisn ed by the North; no exhortation to inspire the true Southerner with becoming zeal in hbalf of his house-hold traditions, and the legends of the beautiful savannahs that clus ter abut his sunny home. Each number ol the Magazine will con. tain 64 pages of neat letter press, in royal octavo form, ,n superb paper, one steel en graving,one piece of original or popular m. - sic; plates of the Fashions and otther embel ishments.
