He quiets the nervous system, he deadens the pain, and you leep well. Friends a-sk, "what is the cause?" and the answer comes in pitying tones, nervous prostration. The masquerade ball passed quietly with no noise or excitement ana nut a small at tendance. 1 wondered at this, because it must be pleasant for some to bide their identity if only for a few hours A call from Col. Crockett Powers disclos es the fact that his postotfice address will remain in Barnard another year. Ibis is good news, for the Driving club is soon to be reorganized ready lor next season s campaign. W. A. Perkins moves back to bis farm at the North End and Bert Boyce takes his place at the town farm, where he will be next door neighbor to his brot herX'harles, Mrs. Boyce w ill also be neighbor to her father, Arthur Maynes. The move seems pleasant. Warren Flanders of Strafford, who has been hard sick at C'has. C. Aiken's for nianv weeks, recovered enough to be car ried home Sundav.the 24th. Mr, Flanders bad no lack of friends either in Barnard or Strafford, but was unfortunate in this costly sickness. Strafford people spoke nighly of bis character. Barnard horsemen were shocked and pained at the sudden death of Edwin Kit tredge. He was better known in this town than almost anv other man in Bethel, Always ready with bis horse and money to accept a challenge, Mr. Kittredge will be sorely missed. The old members of the White Hiver Agricultural society are of ten reminded with sorrow that their ranks are fast being thinned. Chas. Lovejoy of Uoyalton and Paul Gay, formerly of Beth el, men of John Hobinson's time, both crossed the river last week and their places will not be easily tilled. Water in the lake was hardly everknown to be so low April 1st as this year but there is a great deptii oi snow yet to be melted which, without doubt, will give us the usual quantity. I often think of a Mr. Southgate, who lived in Woodstock and once owned a farm in the West part of Barnard in school district No. 2, after a visit to his fHrm was asked how he liked the country up there, lie said the great trouble was that the farmers were sugar ing when they ought to be having. Snow in Barnard stays with us a long time and goes slowly In the spring, but in reality is no damage to the land and by nianv thought to be an advantage, making the pastures superior to river larms, VITAL STATISTICS.
