Our esteemed contemporary,

he says ‘‘{Senator Foraker is
making a fignt for the Presiden
tial nomination, a million and a
half Negro voters are with him
to stay”
That seems to be all the Negro
voters in both Norih and Suuth
America, where will Bryan take
in any Negro votes if Foraker 1

i he ‘‘logical candidate?” By
reasou oi what? Three times
defeated. That is not logic.
Logic is the science c>f reason, we
say a man is a logical candidate
for a place, by leason ol ihe fact
that he has done certain things
and is hacked by strong forces,
etc., and would be a detriment to
not chose him- Bro. IScott will
have to straighten up his logic
and his mathematical proposit
ions or else tne people will think
him deinogogic in politics- or in
congruous in his rhetoric and
grammar.

plain why he says Bryan is ihe

mon people, including Negroes.’’

Negroes Want to be Elks.
An attorney representing the
secretary of state of the Kentuc
ky Grand Li dge of Elks and the
Frankfort ledge of ihat order, to
day tiled answer to the petition
recently tiled by Falls City Lodge
No. 44, of the improved and Be
nevolent and Protective Older of
Eiks of the World, an organiza
tion of Negroes, who are seeking]
to compel the secretary of state]
to issue to their organization a
charter under the Kentucky laws
The secretary of state says the
real parties at inteiest are the
grand lodge and Frankfort lodge,
and asks that they lie made de
ft ndauts with him. He sets forth
several reasons why the charter
should not be granted and declar
ed the organizers of the plaintiff
lodge adopted the same name set
out in its articles with the design
to imitate the name of the Grand
Lodge and other Elks' lodges-,
and did so ' frauduently, wrong
fully and illegally.”
The case will come to trial in
September. It has attracted at
tention in Elk circles all over the
United States and will likely be
dealt with by the grand lodge of
the order in annual session next
week at Philadelphia.

Negroes will be Issue
in next Campaign.
According to the New England
conference of the African Meth
odist Episcopal church, in session
at Boston; the action of President
Boosevelt in discharging the
Drownville troops will become an
issue at the next campaign. The
conference adopted a resolution
roasting the president, and inti,
mating ihat his action was an in
sult to the South.
“Slavery is dead,’’ says the
resolution, ‘‘but the spirit of
southern oligarchy still lives,”
