STOCKS Private advices from (llobe state that the No. 1 winze in the (lardner workilngs of Superior &. lioston, which Is the one nearest the end of thc west drift at the 400-foot level, is now equipped with a small hoisting engine, which will admit more expeditious sinking. The winze is bottomed at 4X feet, where a w idth of seven feet of ore Is exposed without showing either foot wall or hanging wall, this width being the size of the winze. The average of the ore lifted from this depth is 8 per cent copper, mostly carbonate but with some sulphides In thc form of copper glance coming in, tho latter assaying 20 per cent. At the start the winze showed a width of only 21,a feet of ore, but thc width and values have steadily Increased with depth. There are Indications that It will open up fcome very h'sh grade ore, and Its present average of 8 per cent copper, 40 per cent Iron and only 25' per cent Insolubles Is better than tho average of the fSroat Eastern workings. A car load will be shipped to the Old Dominion smelter as soon as It' can be brought to surface. As soon as the 100-foot level Is reached It is' planned to drift both cast and west and to crosscut.' No. 2 winze, 12" feet cast of No. 1, Is still working with a windlass. It la down 22 feet, all of the way In ore that shows considerable copper glume. This is also showing Increased width and value with depth and Is now four feet wide. Holders of stocks had better make up their minds to stand a long con tinued bear campaign. At a meeting of the directors of th Kay Consolidated Copper company It was voted to call a meeting of share holders of the company for the purpose "f noting upon nn authorization to ln crease tho capital by 200,000 shares, Paid shares when authorized to be of fered to the shareholders of thc Olla Copper Co. on the basis of one share of Kay for each three of Olla. The details regarding this Issue and the method of exchange will be. sent In circular form to shareholders of the companies shortly. It I understood that holders of over two-third of ruin stock have already agreed to exchange on this ba sis. The present authorized capital of Kay Con. Is $1,000,000 and the par value of Its shares $10. The capital will thus he Increased by the action of thc share holders to $3,000,000. Calumet. Mich., April 30. After a rather weak opening this morning prices held steady for n while, but It was upitarcnt that stork were for sale on the slightest rally. The volume of selling orders In creased steadily In the general mar ket, and especially so In Amalgamated until near the close when every'0"0 was selling.
