Fbeb Pbess: As I hav a few spare j moments this evening I will give you a few items that have occurred in our community since my last The recent cold wave was the worst we, ever experienced in this coun try. The Blanco river was frozen over; the ice was thick enough to bear the weight of eight or ten men, we also had a snow two inches deep, that lay on the ground for sev eral days an unusual spectacle for this cli mate. Stock endured the blizzard very well I have not heard of any disastrous effects from the recent cold weather. We have decided to build a new school house of stone, 30x50, 15 feet high, and to make it as near fire proof as possible, con sistent with convenience aud comfort. Our subscription list amouuts to something over 500, that witb tne amount remaining in the countv treasury to the credit of this community, will give ub a building fund of near $700 to begin with, and still a portion of our community have not as yet taken any action in the matter, holding off with a view of establishing a new community, (o fact very much regretted by all interested in building up a first class school in our mid it.) There 9 nothing tnat w ill so inure to tne pros perity and general good of our community as a well orgauizea ana equippea gcuom. We surely have the material out of which to build one nearly one hundred scholars within a radius of four miles of Wimberly, and again the location is healthy, the atmos phere pure and salubrious, nearly entirely exempted from malarial muuences, me water is pure and as clear as crystal, the scenery rugged and picturesque, almost ap proaching the sublime. Nature's guts are bountiful aud iu order for success to crown our banner it is only necessary to move for ward in union, forever bearing in mind, 'That nnited we stand, divided we fall." Mr. C. A. DaviB. the genial clerk of E. P. Laney's store, was recent y married to Miss Varna, the only child of Judge Wyatt of our neighborhood. They certainly have our congratulations ana gooa wisnes ior their fnture welfare. This is the eighth wedding celebrated in this community since the 1st of November, 1885. Messrs. J. M. Hubbs and Oscar Owen are also rejoicing over new advents, it is a girl in each case. There are a few cases of typhoid pneumo nia fever in our midst, the effects of the recent cold weather. Dr. John L. Payne of San Marcos has charge of them. Obsebveb. Fair. And now comes our old friond Capt Harvey, and in a meosure spoils the ro mance of Bryan's cave, by stating that it was open and well known at an early period in this vicinity.
