Tha minute, of tha Janury meeting, held la Buds, and of tha called meeting In Kyle, on March 8, were approved. Th. letter received March 31 from the Hon. L. W. Moore through Mr. Ed. J, L. Green of Ban Mareoa, refor rincr to tha resolution passed by this Alli ance at it. January meeting, was laid before th. bouse. It is only fair to that gentle man, to state that tha communication ad dressed to him, from some causa or other failed to reach bim and as a oonseqnenoe elicited no reply. A motion was then oar. oled that th. chair appoint a committee to whom all resolutions shall be referred .pre. vious to presenting them to the house The chair named on said committee C. L Llghtfoot. Y. E. Worley, J. T, Albright, M. L. Ward, and Thos. W. Smith. Bra. It. J. Bledse read an extract from the speech and called attention to tha stand taken bv Senator Reagan In tha debate on the bond purchasing bill, and moved that a epeoial committee be appointed to commend his aotion in the above casa. Thi. being agreed to, the ohair appointed B. J. Sledge, O. L. Lightfoot and J. T. Albright Motion to adjourn till 1 p. m. After adjournment Brother Sledge called attention to tbe law of the State, limiting co-operative .tores to a capital .took of 920,000, remarking as this was a aubjeot In hioh wa were interested, and aa Brother Ellison, one of our representatives in tbe State legislature, was present in the room, he would, no doubt, make some observa tions respecting it and the general bearing and attitude of tbe legislature as regards the interests of tbe peoplo, and also show how far their efforts are aided or opposed bvthe State senate. Mr, Ellison in an able manner dearly" explained oertain efforts made by the lower house in the interest of the farmer, and showed how these efforts had been met by the aotion of the senate. He further said it was quite true, also, that pronounced sentiment existed amongst some of the members of that body in favor of changing the present homestead law, in the manner, as we understand it, aa ad vocated by Mr. N. B. Sligh, late president of the Texas National Bank Association. It was plainly demonstrated that some of the senators referred to were quite compe tent to give force to their arguments by language which is so volubly expressed and generally admitted as the peoulior preroga tive of the Billingsgate fishmarkets. Alto gether tho honorable gentleman succeeded admirably in impressing bis hearers with the conviction that that august body, the State senate (some of them at least) entertained about as much sympathy for the people, and regard for the wolfare of the masses as is generally supposed to have animated tbe bosom of W. H. Vandorbilt when bo made that ever memorable retort of "The people be damned." A motion was carried to add Brother Sledge to the committee on resolutions. Brother Llchtfoot next read an article from the "Mercury," of Murch 22nd on the radamDtion of four per oent bonds. After some discussion relative to the above a mo tion was carried that the seoretaty forward copy of the artiole in question to the Hon. . H. Reagan and ascertain from that gen tleman whether there is any provision in the statutes by which said bonds may be placed on the open market and submitted to competition. Mr. Liffhtfoot made a verbal report con cerning tho proposed agricultural and stock fair, concluding his remarks by saying so little interest was evinced in the project either by the coram itte or publio, that he iqnested to be released from furthor ser vice as one of the committee. Brother Sam Johnson and W. D. Bran- num also made verbal reports respecting the business agency department. It ap pears that goods dispatched three weeks and more since have not yet been received. but this is supposed to be owing, in great part at least, to tbe deep interest manifested by the railway companies for tbe people, consequently it ia impossible to feel and disappointment on this score. The secretary then placed before tbe meeting, tbe proposal to make the New Braunfela Woolen Factory and Alliance, oo-operative, undertaking to be managed and controlled by the Alliance share hold ers only. A considerable discussion en sued principally for the purpose of obtain ing full and reliable information, resulting in the resolve to support and encourage tbe enterprise, and apply any unrppropriated money in the hands of tbe treasurer to tbe Dnrchase of share, for tha Hays Co. Farm- era' Alliance). Tbe relief committees submitted a report of their last disbursements, which showed the funds devoted to this purpose to ba ex hausted. We were out of tha oountry five days when wa went to tho oity, the tree bads were well swollen, but the limbs stood out in bare lines against the sky. When we got back the trees were in full leaf and tha landscape was as chang ed as If it bad boen transplanted to another olimate. How wonderful are tha works of Nature! Austin is full of the coning drill, and overflowed to the tune of $12,000 and over in bujing privileges to soil goods eta, on the grounds. The above amount was real ized on Monday and Tuesday's .ales, at whioh time not more than half of tha privi lege, were sold; so th. association stands in a fuir way to ooms out at par, to say the least.
