We have just leased from Mr. E. A. Sturgis the adjoining store (the two stores to be consolidated) and
on February ist the style of the firm will be changed. In ordt r to close out the entire stock by
that date, we realize that some deep cuts in prices must be made, but we feel equal to the task.

An Interesting contribution to history
has just been tniulc by .Major Wliiftato,
who lius written n narrative, of tlio revolt,
in thuSomliiii. He nays tlio Miiliill never
claimed ortelually to bo anything more
than the forerunner of the Mahtll, who, nil
the faithful expected, would couto some
day. Ho was an eloquent man, and dur
ing one of his addresses to his followers,
weary as they were of Egyptian rule, they
shouted, "You aro the Mahdl." The idea
f-eems to have occurred to him to make
himself a greater personago than lie had
tlus far claimed to be. "I am the Mahdl,"
he replied, and from that time ho was ac
cepted as the true .Mahdl, and began tlio
open revolt which led to ills installment
lit Khartoum as an absolute ruler.
Wlinlc I'liinllltK t tlio Sikiuu Calling.
Here aro a few notable instances of how
railroading runs in families. On the Krie
and Pittsburg division of tlio Pennsylva
nia railroad are livo brothers named Mc
Dowell, all conductors. Thero aro also
five brothers named I'iUniiiurlce, all en
gineers. There are also II vu I'eterses, father
and four sous; also livo Donlins, father and
four sons. The I'itUburg, Kort Wityno
and GhlcHgo railway has among its em
ployees Mr. Fulor and eight sons.
Alaska seems to have turned out any
thing but n bad investment, The country
cost, tin- United States $7,200,000, and last
year tlio exports of goods amounted in
value to (8,041.515.
