What I Know About Cotton and
Hardware
Several good crops and considera
ble speoulativo buying during tho
boom years of '89 and '90, a heavy
surplus which has beenggrowing from
year to year, or, in one word "over
production" iB at tho bottom of the 1
present low pneo ot cotton. Unfor
tunately many farmers and merchants
who intended to hold their cotton for
higher prices held and are holding h
for lower pricos. Of course tho prioo
of cotton will fluctuate as usual, but
no high-priced cotton year need to bo
oxpectod until the surpluB is used up.
Relief will come in two ways. 1. The
low prioo of cotton fabrics will stim
ulate consumption all over the world
and will draw it into new channels.
2. Short crop years or smallor
acreage, or both, will lessen the sup
ply. Those processes aro slow. It
may take 2 to 4 years to bring tho
cotton market into a sound condition.
I have just received a car of steel
goods suoh as hoes, rakes, forks etc,
a car of horse shoes, the Burden, XL
steel, snow, cowboy and toe weight
patterns, a oar of sheet iron, black and
galvanized smooth and corrugated.
My priocs aro rook bottom on these
goods wholesale and retail.
