Charley Mitchell, Jim Hall, Billy Meyer, George Siddon, Tommy Danforth, and hundreds of other prominent pugi lists are here, notwithstanding the fact that the Ryan-Ncedham fight, which takes place to-night before the Metropolitan club is not con sidered as great an event as the Mahcr Fitzsimmons fight on Wednesday night, yet the cheap admission fee of five dollars, has caused a big run on the club, and at noon, standing room is being sold. Bets are being offered in the pool rooms here on Needham, seven to five, with few ' takers. There is plenty of Fitzsimmons money in the city at even, with reluctant takers. A Washington special has it that Senator Sherman will probably retire from the senate before-, the expiration of his term and hat Secretary Foster will succeed him. DENIES IT. Washington, Feb. 29. Sena tor Sherman's comment this morn ing'upon the pulished statement that he has made up his mind to resign from the senate is brief but comprehensive. He said, "there is not the slightest foundation for the story. 1 have never uttered to any one my purpose to resign, for I have never even contempla ted it." A terriffc gale has been raging here for the past twenty-four hours. The wind is from the northeast, and is blowing with a hurricane force. The meadows between here and Atlantic City' are submerged about a foot. The tracks of the Camden and Alle gheny road are under water, and all trains are being delayed. Indianapolis, Feb. 29. At to o'clock this morning two spe cial policemen were assaulted by a mob of two thousand people who were in sympathy with the strik ers. They were pimmelled over the head and had to seek shelter fiom the mob on Washington street. The mob is very demon strative, and there will be blood shed unless the police outnumber the mob. A real mob law is ex pected about 1 1 o'clock, when the first car is started. Wenllier Indication. Washington, Feb. 29. A crazy shoemaker named Revell who re sides at Broad Swords, near Don caster killed his four children yes terday by cutting their throats. Yesterday eighty members sur rounding the mining towns held a meeting in favor of 1'resident Diaz. A committee was appointed to convey the resolutions adopted to President Diaz. In replying to the resolutions, President Diaz said he would continue to do every, thing in his power to promote peace and progress in his country. An Embezzler. jNeW York, Feb. 29. Geo. Edward Krapf of the German Army was arrested on board the Aurania as she came in today on the charge of embezzling 57o marks. He had over 15,000 marks on his person. Fifteen business houses in the southern part of the city, including the new Syndicate stone block in which the postofficc is located, were burned.
