To the News:
I beg spaoo in your valuablo paper
to express my views and sentiments
regarding an institution that is an
honor and credit to tho charitablo citi

hospital. Since tho days when the
man journod from Jeruselom to Jorioo
and had tho mist'ortuno of being rob
bed, beaten and left to tho meroy of
tho passers by, suoh incidents havo
ooourod. An abundant high priests
and levites have been reared up, since
that incident who havo permitted tho
ories of the unfortunate to go unheeded
but thank God thcro has also been
many Good Samaritans who have dis
played their charity and kindness.
Tho inn to whioh that maimed and
maltreated citizen was ouried and
cared for was a hospital to him. Good
Samaritan of Waco, somo of their
abundance others, liko the poor wid
ow, gavo all Eho had "oven to her
living," havo contributed to tho erec
tion of an institution that will ever
evideuoo their ohairty. A magnifioont
building, composed of ton rooms, well
furnished and presided ovor by Mr.
and Mm. Mabry, whose heart and
hand unito to rcliovo tho poor unfor
tunates. Six inmates, afilioted with
divors diseases, two of whom will soon
bo in that house not made with hands
eternal and in the heavens, occupy
bods furnished with nioe, clean, white
bodolothes. By tho bod side of one in
mate, whoso appoarano indioated tho
presoenco of that foil destroyer, con
sumption, sat a pleasant face woman,
with her tiny bands busying herself,
like Martha and Mary of old, trying
to make tbo "bitter sweet." The
olosest attention is given tho sick
rooms, well ventilated und rrgulatod,
and all things done to add to tho oom
fort of the inmates. Two much praise
cannot bo lavished upon those who
was instrumental in this grand work
mid those who contributed thereto

WACO TEXAS'
RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT.
Passed by the Waoo Liquor Deal
ers Association.
A special meeting of the Waco
Liquor Dealers Association No.
18 was held last night to hear the
report of a committee appointed
to draft resolutions on the cjeath
of a highly esteemed member, the
late John A. Blom. The follow
ing was presented and adopted
unanimously by a rising vote:
We your committee appointed
to draft resolutions on (the death
of our associate and friend, John
A. Blom, respectfully submit the
following:
John A. Blom, though a native
of Norway, gave Texas the land
of his adoption, hts entire allegi
ance. But while he loved his na
tive land, his love for his adopted
country and her free institutions
was as true and as far-reaching as
that of her most adopted son.
His character was one full of sin
cerity, unaffected simplicity, de
termination of purpose and hones
ty of intent His kindness was
proverbial. Nothing pleased him
more than to be able to perform
a good act, and to do it in his
own unassuming way without
noise or self acclaim. The lean
hand of hunger and the white
lips of famine never appealed to
him in vain. He was near his God
in season and out of season by be
ing near sorrow, suffering and dis
tress. Then who shall doubt when
the summons came he was pre
pared for the great journey. All
in all, he lived an honorable and
industrious life, therefore, be it
Resolved, That in the death of
Brother Blom this association has
sustained the loss of a good mem
ber, his family a devoted friend,
and his adopted state a patriotic
citizen.
Resolved, That as a mark of
respect to his memory this asso
ciation publish a copy of these
resolutions and that a copy of
same be furnished his widow
and another to his mother, and
that our secretary communicate
these resolutions to them.
Resolved, Further, That these
resolutions be spread upon the
minutes of this association.
