TEARING UP PAVED STREETS. A Notable Example of tho Irrepar-, able Damages Done When , the Pavement Is Broken. Ever since Waco began to pave her ' streets there has been a continual dis cussion about tearing up the streets ' for the purposo of laying water and ' gas mains and pipes and sewers. The city has passed an ordinance against the tearing up of a paved street. In some oases it has been positively nec essary to do so that a leak could be repared. When surh a break has been made it has been the case in every instance that the pavement has given away in a short time whether it was stone or cedar block. A few days ago the water main on the post office corner sprung a leak and the cedar block pavement had to be torn up tor two or three squaro yards to get at the main. The blocks were put back, apparently as good as tbey were before, but a very little travel soon showed the d fferenee Since then the blocks have been re laid four or five timeii in a vain effort to get them back as solidly as they were originally. Those who have claimed that it would make no differ ence are now convinced. Keep the pavement intact. Back from Anson. Gentral Manager Lharlos Hamilton of tho Texas Central, returned this afternoon in his speoial oar with tho Board of Trade committeo. This com mittee had been sent to Anson in Jones county to report on tho feasi bility of extending tho Texas Central to that point trom Albany.
